Just be warned you'll need to do some tweaking before you get everything set up, had mine for a month and still working it.   Suggest with your specs you can do 200%-220%SS (I'm at 180% with a 1080),  try it with motion projection on.  The cable and connector can be annoying, I've tried different set-ups, tie-wrapping the connector to the back then looping the cable back down seem to work best so far.

I now got my Reverb , I go from rift 1 and it's really going to one  better and more clear

- if it's gen 2 with that wow effect , I'm looking forward to gen 3

Guess there will be some more tweaking , but it's  all ready very good

(71etc. , What is ' motion projection ' and share do I find it )

It's very clunky the way WMR does it, unlike Oculus.   Here's a link to it:

Consumer edition is now $499 on their website. I wanted the leather face cushion, but not for $150 more.

Unless you already have lighthouses and really want the refresh rate of the Index, this is likely your best bet. If you wear glasses, you won't even notice the increased FOV because you'll have to back the lenses away in the Index. I don't wear glasses but still had to back them away a bit because of my face (always knew it was messed up, didn't need the reminder), so I only notice a slight loss in FOV, which is easily worth it for the clarity.

That´s an incredible price for such a great device including the controllers!

It clearly demonstrate that high-definition VR doesn´t need to be expensive!

It is what the Rift-S should had been in terms of resolution, Rift form factor and integrated audio.

Really don´t understand how the pioneers of VR (Oculus) with unlimited R&D budget can not make a better device than a "newbie" VR maker.

Well, in fact I understand it, that madman obsessed with the social media who neglect PC-based games.

The money to be made is not in the hardware side, it's the bundle they rope you into, ask Samsung.  They were burnt even though they sat as king with their devices out stripping everything else in terms of end users, they made a huge mistake by partnering with the FB gang and their oculus bloatware.  Now they refuse to even give their phones the capability.

I actually found the foam cushion, which I had in my first Reverb, slightly more comfortable than the leather one I have now.  Definitely not worth the extra $150.

How does the Reverb FOV compare to Rift S ?  I have Rift S currently but a price drop on Reverb is pretty tempting. Money no object I'd likely go Index but am not convinced about the price and they still don't ship to Canada.

Using a function of OpenVR you can obtain certain tangent angles and with that the Rendered FOV. The actual FOV is always lower (or equal) due to other physical factors.

That calculation reveals this:

RiftS: VerticalFOV:94 TotalHorizontalFOV: 88

Reverb: VerticalFOV:90 TotalHorizontalFOV:95

I have not tested the Rift-S, but the Reverb was very similar to the original Rift CV1 in terms of FOV as I can remember. I couldn´t test the Reverb versus Rift CV1 since I sold the CV1 in January this year.

I have reproduced de calcs of the Reverb here:

The only way you can really be sure about the device is to buy the Reverb, then decide if you keep Rift-S or sell it.

Be aware than other people prefered the Reverb over the Index.

That was my experience when I had both, hfov slightly better and vfov slightly worse    with  reverb.   Also fov on the side is more squarish than circular.

I had the Index for 5-6 weeks before trying the Reverb. It's great. I'm glad I got to try both (and tried a Pimax 5k for 2 weeks, and had a Vive Pro first), and have settled on the Reverb. I prefer the higher resolution over FOV. I'll stick with higher resolution and wait for FOV to catch up over time, rather than chase FOV now and wait for resolution to catch up.

You'll likely be happy with either one though.

^^ dont waste your $150

I have had my Reverb for a week. The leather face cushion sucks balls for me as it is too thin across the forehead and doesnt contact around the sides. Being too thin across the forehead causes me to see the screen edges when looking forward, the screen edges illuminate or reflect light and are terribly annoying. If i pull the headset away from my face by about 5mm i no longer see the edges. The sides not contacting causing alot of light bleed into the headset which is also very annoying as you need light for the inside out head tracking.

I have attached my spare vive face cushion onto the reverb leather cushion which has fixed the problem for me ?. There is no way of adjusting the headset toward or away from your face/eyes like the vive ?

I'm not very happy with the software as it is causing crashes to the desktop after a random amount of flying time. I had three CTDs last night  while trying to fly WoL, twice during critical engagements ( i bet ppl thought i was disconnecting so i wouldnt be shot down ? ). Also if i exit the WMR software i have to restart the PC before i can use WMR again as it says the headset wont wake up ?.

Also is IL2 is running at 60 fps on the in-game counter, yet WMR and SteamVR are set at 90hz and SteamVR shows it running at 90 hz. Anyone with WMR know what could be wrong? Reprojection is disabled.

BTW it is not all doom and gloom:

The resolution is FANTASTIC! and the game feels very smooth when not in Multiplayer. Smoother than my Vive (ver1) running at lower settings and SS.

SteamVR will sometimes cap the fps at 60 after a crash. Unplug the headset from your pc and open Windows Settings> Mixed Reality and scroll down and click on Uninstall. After that is complete plug your headset in again and go through the set up. SteamVR will then pick up on your gpu and HMD and return your previous settings.

That is because SteamVR is still running with WMR. When you exit the game and close WMR SteamVR should shut down. Check your Application and Developer Settings in SteamVR to check for it to launch with VR apps.

To avoid shutting down your pc open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and close the SteamVR functions that are running.

It's not the WMR software that's causing crashes. You may be pushing your 1080 too hard. What settings are you running in game and SteamVR?

Thanks for the reply Gordon.

I'll check out the uninstall and reinstall of WMR and see if that helps the fps and CTDs. I'll try a fresh Win10 install on a spare SSD as well.

I dont believe SteamVr has anything to do with the WMR and headset not waking up after i try restarting the WMR software as the WMR will still fail when it is the only program i have been using. The WMR, headset and Win10 definitely has an issue somewhere for me.

My 1080 is doing fine. The CTDs start with a progressive failing of headtracking first and then it CTD. (SteamVR 180%SS for IL2 app, 100% in video global tab) , High preset in game, noAA, low Shadows, 70k distance, normal ground, no SSAO or HDR.) I'm SURE the CTD is a failing of WMR, SteamVR and IL2. When i try the fresh Win10 install it might fix any corruption that is causing this.

Are you closing WMR after exiting the game? SteamVR is still active after you exit the game. It should drop off but this is not a perfect world (yet).

When you first start WMR and then launch IL2 SteamVR should start automatically and icons for SteamVR and IL2 should appear in the tool tray at the bottom of the screen. Later when you exit the game icons for WMR and SteamVR are still in the tool tray. Click on WMR and close it. SteamVR should then close on its own.

I agree that moving Win10 to a different harddrive is a good idea. Your settings are not too demanding for your system. Keep at it and don't give up. I've had my Reverb a month now and I still get WOW moments and sometimes nearly crash looking at the detail of images I've not noticed before. I don't know how flying a sim can get any better than Reverb. After all this game is animation and we can't expect Google street view like images.

Still not been able to buy one yet! :( Not seen a way to get one in the UK. Its even been removed from the HP online store.

Try Ebay. They might bump up some $$$ on top of the original price but you'll get one :hunter:

Considering you are replying to a post that is a year and a half old I suspect he eventually got something.

But who knows...
