NO Contact in 4 out of 5 Missions?

OK, so the last four out of five missions I've flown in this campaign have come up completely empty.  Not one Russian aircraft flying.

One of these was a bomber escort that ranged from the top of the map to the bottom (or so it seemed).

 

Nothing.

 

The last mission was (allegedly) a scramble as there were (allegedly) incoming enemy aircraft.

 

Nada.  Zip.  We took off, climbed to 10,000 feet, circled the field a few times and the controller brought us in.

 

Not one enemy aircraft anywhere in the vicinity.

 

What the heck?

I've upped the number of enemy flights and aircraft in the settings.  Figured this might help.  Nnnnope.

What is the deal?

Not really interested in flying another long mission if this is going to happen again.
