Tapi Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Please help me clarify this: Originally I bought BOS on Steam but all other modules (BOM, BOK, BoBP) I bought from dev's website. But I have always been running game as Steam game since t BOS time (and I have been receiving updates automatically via steam). I also paired my IL-2 account with Steam some time ago, as devs suggested. No problems so far. But now I am traying VR and I need to launch .exe instead of steam version of game. And if I run .exe, the game ask me repeatedly to pair again my IL-2 account with the steam... I would like to understand the differences. Mainly if I may run the game as if it was not bought on steam (including manual updates)? THX

But it shouldn't be asking you to link your accounts if you have already done so. Why can you not use Steam when using VR? Just curious.
Tapi Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 (edited) Thx. Quote Why can you not use Steam when using VR? Just curious. Well I am still learning VR things ? but I want to avoid launching SteamVR due performance reasons (runing both Oculus Home and SteamVR is resource demanding) and I also want to run IL-2 quickly directly from desktop (not from Oculus Home) and let it launch VR automatically. But may be I will finally manage to do it with steam version too... For more detail just see this thread: Edited July 31, 2019 by Tapi
DD_Arthur Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Hi Tapi, I'm running my Rift using something called Open Composite. https://gitlab.com/znixian/OpenOVR/blob/master/README.md It's simple to set up and use and means I can run BoS without Steam VR. This makes a noticeable difference to performance on my system. These are my in game graphics settings I've got ASW on Auto and super sampling at 1.2 using Occulus Tool Tray. My system; Intel i7 3930X CPU overclocked to 4.4Ghz, 24gigs of DDR3 and an RTX 2070 graphics card. Good luck! Hope this helps
Tapi Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 (edited) Thx DD_Arhtur. My setings after installing OpenComposite here: As for the IL-2 game version I found out that I cannot fire Steam version via desktop icon (I can but it do not work inside headset without SteamVR running). I has to run .exe version and it runs without problems with OpenComposite. The strange thing is that everytime I launch steam version of the game (from desktop) I have to pair it with steam account again. If I run .exe version then and then again launch the steam version I have to pair it again... I do no need to launch steam version anymore so no problem for me, just curious why game works this way... Edited August 1, 2019 by Tapi
