Gun sighting against dark background?

Maybe I have missed the solution to using the gunsight while targeting enemy tanks against dark background or over hanging tree branches in the foreground.Using “telescoping” key stroke helps a little, but not much and I’m not sure what to do with fading light or in the darkness . Sometimes moving the gun sight / cannon barrel around a little allows me to better acquire the ranging circle ,but it does eat up precious time while T-34’s are trying their best to blast me to kingdom come.Is there a solution I’ve missed or a solution to his persistent problem?

Turn the compartment lights on, and the sight will glow

Blitzen,The actual sight reticle does light up, i have reset mine to "L" on my KB, i forget what the default setting is in the game, but it is in the tank control section of settings.
