I made a backup of my "input" folder before I resetted my computer, now my question is, is there a way to tell the game to load those files? Because right now the whole keymapping was resetted, despite me putting the "input" folder where it used to be.

If you've copied the entire input folder before the update, you should be able to simply copy it back, replacing any files the update has changed. The game doesn't need to 'load' anything else. I'd check that you have in fact replaced the files in the right place.

Okay, I'll report back. I suspect it overrode them because I copied the folder over before starting the game the first time.

Yeah, i tried to figure that out too. Right now i am trying out TARGET GUI since i have Thrustmaster hardware. Someone mentioned it also works with other brand USB  stuff, but it's probably needing some script editing expert and a lot of time ... i started off with an already 90% finished cofiguration file downloaded from Thrustmaster.

These troubles usually start because windows addresses the same hardware with a new USB ID#. You could try to get the old numbers back with JoyID, clear out empty device buses first with USBdeview. If you're lucky you might get the old situation back ....

But i must say i hate the keymapping system used in the Great Battles series. At least in Cliffs and better done in 1946 you can load and save configurations.  Luck.

You could do so in Rise of Flight also. Something I also miss in the new series. Thought was a great feature to be able to save and load configurations as (that plus different response profiles for each aircraft) meant I could make my controls represent the layout for whatever aircraft I was using. And could do so without closing the game or having to edit all the controls each time, just load the preset from a list job jobbed.

I've replaced the present files in the input folder but it did not restore my keymapping. So I just did them fresh...

I once experienced that some keymappings did not work after re-loading some old files, and pressing 'default' on the page fixed that. However i still wonder if 'default' resets ALL the pages in keymappings. or just the actual one on your display ..... asked that before elsewhere, no reply sofar. J

Press "reset as default" erase all keybindings, this "reset" copy the default configuration files that came with game when you install first time.

For the case of Windows create an new ID (joy2, joy3, joy4...) and don't want map stick again use Notepad++ Find and Replace function in current.map and current.action files an replace the old ID for the new.

Sometimes when I calibrate my throttle or joystick the axes or key mapping in the game no longer works.  Instead of remapping everything I found just the "devices" text file in the ...data\input folder needs to be edited.

To fix it I first I go into the game's Key Mapping in Settings to where it shows a setting for one of my devices, for example a button input for the joystick.  I then find an empty box and enter a button press from the joystick.  What I find many times is that the ID in the game for the stick might be joy3 but the new button press came up as joy4.  I note the device and the new ID.  I then check and note the IDs of my other devices.  Do not Accept any of the new settings, just exit the game.

Then open the "devices" file with Wordpad, etc. and check the number at the beginning of each line for each device against the current ID.  Change the number of any device that is not correct and save.  The lines do not have to be in number order.

Run IL-2 again and all the key mapping should be working again.

Just started using Devrecorder 1.02 (in my case instead of TARGET) for CoDB, mainly because of those ID issues ...

With Devicerecorder comes a handy tool called DeviceLister.exe. It shows the correct naming of your USB game hardware. Windows Game Control panel has them wrong at times i noticed, and CoDB wants them correctly named to get them to work.
