Sheriff88 Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 I'm seeing this glow on skins usually around cross as shown in picture. Also see it around fuselage band. Gamma Corrections setting at .9 or 1.0 . What graphics adjustment is need to eliminate the glowing halo effect? 1

Fortunately there is a way to disable it in your game files. Go to your config file in game directory and open it with notepad, look for bloom and set it to 0. The game will look much better but bear in mind, every time you change any gfx options you will need to reopen this file and change bloom again. Regards Edited July 26, 2019 by Bilbo_Baggins 1 2
Stoopy Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Holy Cow I've been wondering if there was a way to turn that off - thank you both!

Many are wondering the same thing for some time now. Godawful bloom like this should surely be set to off by default? I don't know why the devs don't sort it out or just get rid of it. Sort it out please devs! Edited July 26, 2019 by Bilbo_Baggins 1
PicksKing Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 (edited) This blooming seems to be connected to HDR by default. So you also can deactivate HDR and its gone. Without changing any config files. 7 hours ago, Bilbo_Baggins said: Go to your config file in game directory and open it with notepad, look for bloom and set it to 0. I only know the gpresets.cfg in "[...]\data\luaScript". There is a line "post_bloom_enable=true" but I guess a "0" instead of a "false" would break this file. Edited July 26, 2019 by PicksKing
Obelix Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 And you had to do this (bloom = 0 ) after each update....

If you deactivate HDR, that awful bloom is still there. You can have HDR on and the bloom off at the same time. Have to to into the cfg file to disable it. Sheriff88 Posted July 26, 2019 Author Posted July 26, 2019 Thanks for all your input. HDR Off got rid of bloom. Looks like it eliminated most of a cloud flicker I was getting also.
Stoopy Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 (edited) Agreed, I had an hour to kill this morning so I took the revamped Fw190 A-3 out for a spin on the Kuban map to admire its new 4k glory and I could not get over how good everything else looks now with this change. It's like I was flying with a light coating of oil on my contact lenses before this change. Edited July 26, 2019 by Stoopy
JimmySolarium_VR Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 you can have HDR without bloom. Just put HDR=1 and Bloom=0 in the startup.cfg, just make sure you set the file to write protected after you made the change.

Set the file to write protected and we don’t have to keep turning bloom off? Will definitely try that, thank you. Edited July 26, 2019 by Bilbo_Baggins
jasta11ace Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 How do you set file as write protected? I did a normal "save" after the change.
Stoopy Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 (edited) Assuming you are using the windows file manager to view the folder where the file is: Right click on it, go to Properties, and in the Attributes section at the bottom of the dialogue box, check "Read-only", then select "Apply" and "OK" (Apply is redundant but considered good form).
