Rick_Rawlings Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 (edited) ...this campaign. Using the new PWCG 6.0, we were finally able to get it to receive mission logs again. Unfortunately, we on a whim decided to give the LaGG 3 a try. I mean it looks cool, right? Boy, I don't remember it being this bad in the original IL2? I was hoping Leia would come by so she could ask if it would help if she got out and pushed. Struggling to keep up with BF 110's is not a ringing endorsement! I predict a short series for this one... Raptorattacker Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 (edited) "The LaGG-3 proved immensely unpopular with pilots. It was somewhat hard to control as it reacted sluggishly to stick forces. In particular, it was difficult to pull out of a dive, and if the stick was pulled too hard, it tended to fall into a spin. As a consequence, sharp turns were difficult to perform. Moreover, pilots reported a number of imperfections: badly made hydraulic systems, broken connecting rods, oil leaks, overheating engine. Moreover, the landing gear was defective, the tail wheel easily broke, the canopy was badly fitted, the metal sheet on the engine cowling and the stressed skin were badly finished." I think the Pilots would concur with your findings, if questioned!... Edited July 23, 2019 by Raptorattacker
Rick_Rawlings Posted July 23, 2019 Author Posted July 23, 2019 (edited) Bad enemy pilots are the only saving grace... Edited July 23, 2019 by Rick_Rawlings 1
Rick_Rawlings Posted July 24, 2019 Author Posted July 24, 2019 (edited) Well, this was embarrassing. I couldn't even catch up to the 110 in time before he shot down Brenged. Which I feel bad about. Because I sort of told him that I had cleared his tail. But the 110 was so unconcerned about me that it latched back onto him and shot him down. (He lived, so it was not too bad, but there were definitely some awkward moments at the canteen when he dragged himself in seven hours later...) Edited July 24, 2019 by Rick_Rawlings 1
Raptorattacker Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 (edited) Just a quick question. How long had your beard actually grown by the time you caught up to that second 110? It's been bothering me... ... and who the HELL is "Steve" that the radio operator keeps calling? Edited July 25, 2019 by Raptorattacker
Rick_Rawlings Posted July 25, 2019 Author Posted July 25, 2019 uh...yeah. As I was watching that myself after posting it I was like "Yeah, I could have edited some of that out..." But, you know, interest of complete transparency and all that! And a parting on the leftIs now a parting on the rightAnd the beards have all grown longer overnight -Pete Townshend 1
Raptorattacker Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 I wasn't complaining, oh no... No, there was no hint at a possible edit. It was merely a comment on the obvious-for-all-to-see lack of OOMPH in the LaGG engine department. 'Twas written with a smile!!
Rick_Rawlings Posted July 26, 2019 Author Posted July 26, 2019 Well, I was complaining when I was watching it. I was like, "Get on with the good part!" And then I was like " Oh wait, that's me! " 1
Rick_Rawlings Posted August 3, 2019 Author Posted August 3, 2019 (edited) Titles say it all. This second one is only for 100% completionists or masochists. Although the cannon shot around 37:50(!) I think validates my decision to go with the 37mm... Edited August 3, 2019 by Rick_Rawlings 1
56RAF_Roblex Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 (edited) Were you having ID problems in the first video? Most VVS fighters are easy to recognise because the Russians liked wings that tapered equally front & back so you see an almost elongated diamond shape with rounded tips. The 109s do also taper front & back but the taper on the leading edge is very slight. They may have straight or rounded wingtips. The P40 sometimes gets confused with a 109 because the wing shape is similar in as much as it is not equally tapered like a Russian plane but it is not really the same. The wing is fatter and the leading edge is pretty much straight with a pronounced taper to the trailing edge. Also the gap between the wings and tailplane on a P40 is far shorter than on a 109. If you see it from the side iit is not as sleek as a 109 as it has a big bulky nose. Edited August 3, 2019 by 56RAF_Roblex
Rick_Rawlings Posted August 3, 2019 Author Posted August 3, 2019 Yes, thank you! I think it has something to do with the first lod out from the nearest render can make it tough to tell in a quick view. That and we probably need more practice!
