VR external view problems

Playing tank crew in VR with a valve index and finding sometimes when in an external view and I pan around some of the other tanks around me simply disappear (depending on the range) - then later will pop up again if I change view - any idea whats causing this and how to fix?

this is something also happening with other headsets (Pimax5K+) and I am not sure with Rift. I think it is an IL-2 bug for some very specific viewing angles and positions.
