Currently running il2 with oculus rift, i7 6700k 4.5ghz and gtx 1070.

I consider upgrading to gtx 1080ti due to price drop and later to rift s?

Will gtx 1080ti bring noticable performance boost in VR over gtx1070?

How is your performance with i7 6700k and gtx1080ti and on what settings?

Rift S here. I'm getting frame rated pegged at 80fps with high graphics settings and pixel density at 1.6.

The Rift S is a brilliant upgrade to the original Rift :)

Yeah Rift S is pretty sweet. I had my doubts also and was pleasantly surprised.

I am happy for you. It is pitty though that they did not go for more ambitious display resolution.

Salutations,

Any details about how easily the Rift S handles players that wear or need glasses? :salute:

The Rift S has a slider on the bottom to move the lens in closer to eyes or out further from eyes, I assume to accommodate this.

I do not wear glasses so can not comment on actual use.

I previously had a 3770k @ 4.2ghz with a GTX 1070, and I found that IL2 was a bit choppy. It often ran at 45 FPS ASW (Oculus magic framerate doubler). Back then, though, ASW caused some serious artifacts on the propellor disc, which has now been fixed by the game developers.

I upgraded to an 8086K @ 5.0ghz with an RTX 2080 (roughly 1080ti equivalent) and the game improved a lot. Personally I think a lot of that is the CPU -- IL2 loves single-thread performance.

If you are considering the Rift S, I think a 1080ti is a very good card to get. It's powerful enough to push a lot of pixels and even increase pixel density. People are using the 1080ti with the Valve Index and the Pimax 5k, both of which have more pixels than the Rift S. You should also see if you can wring a little extra performance out of your 6700k -- even 200mhz may make a difference.

I'm planning to upgrade cpu and ram in at some point too!

I think i'll start with ram since currrent one is only 2400mhz......=>3000mhz.

1080ti is on the way ( found it for 400€ brand new), rift s is on schedule in a few weeks than ram and maybe cpu if current one won't be sufficient.

Right now i fly at 45fps on high/balanced settings and have no problems with it so looking forward to better performance and clarity with rift s.

IL2 very much likes reduced memory latency. The actual latency of a memory chip is dependent upon both the speed (mhz) and the CAS timing. I have 3200mhz CAS-16, which I believe is actually slightly slower than 3000mhz CAS-14. Do check both the numbers. I would shoot for 3200 or better, and overclock it a little. My 3200 is running happily at 3333. For IL2, every little helps! (Also if you're planning a CPU upgrade you might have to get a whole new motherboard, I'm not sure, in which case the RAM may or may not be compatible...)

I'll give it a check (ram).....big thank you for that:)

Mobo i had in mind to check those Chanell/bus speeds, usually i google it to see what ppl say, so far i only know socket is good , but yeah wrong/not best advised m9bo, ram or cpu and bottleneck can occur between those holy trinity or prevent it from full potential.....i usually go for checked config and buy all 3.

Now i have i7 6700k with 2400mhz ram on asus maximus ranger 7 (or 8 ) mobo.

I use cryorig h7 (i think) air cooler so i'm limited with OC.

I will wait for gpu and rift s to see what i get perfprmance wise and than decide either to upgrade ram or go for both 3 (cpu, mobo and ram).

I broke up with a gf so i can spend money as i like lol.....pc and mtb build woohooo ;)

seems it was some kind of scam on Amazon, they canceled my order....so no 1080ti for 400euros :(

Now i'm not sure to go with rtx2080 or  buy used 1080ti

You might even be able to snag a used 2080, since the SUPER cards just came out. I have zero experience with used GPUs but I know some folks have had good results and a good savings. Now that the crypto craze is over (it's over, right?) maybe there is less danger of accidentally buying an ex-mining card.

I've ordered today msi rtx2070Super gaming x trio and rift s, since 2070s is close in performance to 1080ti and cheaper than used 1080ti or 2080 i went for it, and it's a new card.

It should be enough for il2 and dcs (only games i play) :)

I bought a second hand 1080ti and all I can advise you is to look in your country used market apps. In Spain you can already find 1080ti for 400€ used, not mine

Used 1080ti and 2080 in good condition are more expensive or on par than 2070super.

Thanks guys......now waiting for delivery!

,I'd go for the 2070 super over the vanilla 2070, close to 2080 performance and about £50 more expensive than toe standard 2070
