chiliwili69 Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 There are multiple threads around talking about the inferior zoom in VR with respect to the 2D monitor. And it just picked my curiosity to know how this affects to the ID skills of VR users. To compare that I have just used exactly the same QMB mission in monitor and in VR, using same settings (High settings, AAx2, etc) and pressing pause just when the plane (Dora in this case) is at 1500 meters, and then use the max zoom and take the screenshoot with FullHD (1080P) and 4K (2160p). With VR I have followed the same procedure and then I have used my Panasonic Lumix camera with 4320x3240 resolution and make the picture through the lens of the Index VR headset (it is not easy to make zoom and at the same time shoot the camera). Then I have cropped the plane and zoomed each images in order to have a similar size. Everyone with a VR headset can do the same, and you will obtain similar results. We can clearly see that the plane in VR is zoomed much less than in the FullHD case, since the FullHD shows more details than the VR. And we should note that a fullHD is 1920x1080 (about 2.1 million pixels) and one eye of the Index is 1440x1600 (about 2.3 million pixels). So, the problem os VR is not having less resolution than 1080p monitor, the problem is that the zoom in VR is a very small zoom. I think developers could easily change this by simply duplicating the current level of VR zoom. This pictures also show the ID advantage of 4K users over 1080p and VR (Index). 2 1 2
SharpeXB Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 (edited) This makes no sense because you’re cropping the images from the monitor and presenting them in a way that a player would never see unless they held their eyeballs up against the screen. It’s irrelevant to compare images like this. It‘s also a duplicate discussion to this one. Why post the same thing twice? Edited July 19, 2019 by SharpeXB
dburne Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 (edited) VR versus Monitor picture quality while normal or zoomed really can not be compared. Especially with VR, no picture is going to be able to represent what one sees in a headset - probably hard to represent what one sees sitting in front of the monitor also. VR is a totally different animal anyway. It is hard enough just to try and get a comparisons from pictures on a monitor of one VR headset versus another. Heck if I went by many of the pictures of VR in flight sims I have seen posted since getting into VR I may never have even done so. Glad I did not see them much prior to getting VR. I agree it's very hard to make an exact comparison but what I see on the pictures are quite correctly align with my experience. You can also try by recording a track and check how much detail of an other plane you see in 3D with zoom and 2D with max zoom on the same spot in the track. Edited July 19, 2019 by HunDread

Funny that some people seems to be against that VR gets more zoom levels. 1

Yes, they are also aligned to what I see with my eyes. 11 hours ago, HunDread said: You can also try by recording a track and check how much detail of an other plane you see in 3D with zoom and 2D with max zoom on the same spot in the track. I tried that as well, but I couldn´t make use of zoom function on recorded tracks, neither in monitor or in VR. It seems it is disabled for track records (don´t know really why).
