Is a really good plane but the engine is just a crap against bullets, any small caliber damage the engine, strange because radial engines was stronger, historically correct and check.

Yes , strong plane if you compared with yaks for example. 

 

But i agree with neca... too fragile engine for be radial.

 

my impressions and tips.. 

 

Very fast, be careful on dives or you will lost your controls for sure... Good 20 mm cannons... like allways try shot very close... shots over enemy on scissors rare times cause great damage... from six and close can be lethal.

Check your fuel depot, this beast is very hungry.

 

On combat try stay fast all time... no waist to much energy on turns.... at low speeds you are easy prey.

Use your roll rate on maneouvers.

Dont try follow on climb any enemy if u not are completaly sure your have enought energy. At low speeds your handl is worst than enemy.

After a couple of sorties in 5FN going back to old La-5 series 8 is quite unpleasant experience.

But old la-5  is fantastic for learn fly next FN... because due radiator managament ( for evade over heath ) u must have to learn fly fast
