skarden Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 G'day all, I'm finally setting all my controls for this game up so I can enjoy alpha access of this excellent sim but I'm finding that I'm having a lot a problems with some axis once the sims running. I'm using a TM Warthog, saitek rudder pedals and a saitek throttle quadrant for trims and mixture, the problem I'm having is that once I assign the controls I check the axis tune button and I can see the controller moving through its range in the sim and its fine, but once I actually start the sim up all the axis assigned to the throttle quadrant freeze in game and when I go to the controller settings in the options and hit the axis adjust button on the far right the sim no longer recognizes the input at all. it also happens to the zoom axis which is assigned to the little grey slider on the right of the throttle on the warthog throttle. the controls are still assigned in the settings page but just don't respond. I've tried multiple times to re-assign it and as soon as I'm in sim they just freeze totally, no input recognized at all. Strangely the pitch yaw and roll are all fine it just seems to be these other settings that decide not to work in game. I'm also using the TARGET software to control the warthog if that makes a difference that anyone knows about. Any help or suggestions would be hugely appreciated, thanks guys Ross
Panzerlang Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 When you say you're using the Target software do you mean you have a script running? I've tried using the Target GUI for the most simple of things (making a button on the stick work as the SPACE bar) and it makes my PC go absolutely nuts.
skarden Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Yeah I'm running a profile for BOS which I created from the basic gui in target not the crazy script editor thing which just confuses the hell outa me, I use it so I can set a reset button for my trackir that doesn't ties down a button just for that, I'll try and see if the problem with the axis continues when I don't use the target software , hopefully it'll be that simple although it'd be a bit of a shame as I like the flexibility a profile gives me over my HOTAS. I'll try it and report back how it goes, cheers 1
dburne Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I use the TARGET software for all my flight sims without issue. I too really like using it for the flexibility it gives me - I started out using the basic GUI, then the advanced GUI ( one can do a lot with just that), and now have been learning and using the script editor. I currently have the Warthog stick and throttle, Saitek Combat Pedals, and CH Throttle Quadrant. I use the CH mainly to give me a few more axis to work with. You mentioned your main problem is the axis on your Saitek Quadrant are freezing and then not being recognized. I would not think Target would be causing this. The first thing I would check, is go into the controller setup screen and look through all the assignments, and check to be sure the sim did not pick up any of those axis and assign them to something else as well , causing a conflict. I know on mine, initially when setting up controllers sometimes sim controller setups can pick up different axis and assign them to some really strange things, and need to be cleared out initially. But then with PC's who knows, anything can certainly happen... that would be the first thing I would check for though. 1
skarden Posted April 11, 2014 Author Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the replies guys, sorry for the late reply, I've been away for work for a couple of weeks. So I've tried it with and without the TARGET software running , reset all the controls back to default and then check to see if there's any double assignments buried deeper in the controls and nothing seems to work. After playing with it a bit more I've discovered that in the menu all controls respond properly in the main menu controller settings page but once in game everything but pitch, roll and yaw freeze up and are completely unresponsive, so throttle, prop pitch and all trims ( are they enabled yet?) don't work at all. It seems like the sims seeing my rudder pedals and joystick component of the warthog hotas but nothing else and only when the sims actually running, when I check them through the controller settings when the actually flight is running nothing at all but once I quit out and check again in the main menu controller settings everythings good again and responsive. It's starting to do my head in to be honest, besides this the sims runs beautifully, looks great and inflight feels amazing but without the full use of the basic flight controls I can't enjoy it like I would like to, or at all really. Panzerlang Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Try switching controllers to different USB ports and see if you can isolate a dodgy port. Then try having only one controller connected at a time and see if you can isolate a dodgy controller. 1
skarden Posted April 11, 2014 Author Posted April 11, 2014 Yeah, I tried that and couldn't seem to find anything wrong with the ports themselves, plus after I tried that I tried a IL-2 COD and DCS and both had no problems detecting the controllers at all, very strange stuff indeed, thanks for the suggestion thouhg, I hope I get to the bottom of it soon, the PE-2 comes out soon!

Skarden, The trim does not work on all the AC as yet and the 109 has auto prop pitch. 1
skarden Posted April 13, 2014 Author Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) ah cheers, I wasn't quiet sure if that was the case or not, is the prop pitch turned on yet? I tried it with russian planes and it doesn't seem to do anything, the same for the zoom axis, does anyone know if its turned on ingame yet also? certainly not a problem if its not, its an alpha after all but it'd be good to know either way Edited April 13, 2014 by skarden
skarden Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 Ah yep that seems to have sorted it, I reset the controls and re assigned everything, coupled with what everyone here has told me it's all sorted and having a blast with it, absolutely stunning sim already, can't wait for the FW-190 though, my favorite plane of WWII Thanks for all your help guys, very much appreciated
