The only previous mention of this was "Markings" in 2014 where it was mentioned the Devs said the game engine didn't (I'm guessing "natively") support it.

 

What would be handy to have is an individual ID system, kind of like, but not anywhere as elaborate, as the decal mod used in 1946 (IL2 MAT -- was really rather overboard - ?).  In aircraft it's not so much of a requirement due to the ranges involved but it would be great to be able to assign numbers to tanks.  Just numbers, that's all.  I get the whole realism thing and all (size, shape, color, etc.), but we're talking about a bunch of tanks with potentially all the same (probably wrong for the situation) paint job anyway.  Maybe the game automatically assigning the "next" number to a new player and showing that on the stats page for same team view only would work? 

 

(I get tired of hearing "the game engine doesn't support ...".  It's all just code.  It's far more accurate to say the team doesn't find it financially worthwhile to implement.)

I asked about this much more recently than 2014 and the answer I got from Jason (or maybe one of his colleagues) seemed to say that there was code inherited from RoF that was totally inaccessible and the skins code was amongst that.  If this is so then it is not a question of just examining & modifying existing code, it is question of writing a huge and central part of the game code from scratch.   I was asking about aircraft though so maybe the tank code is different.

Hmmm that makes no sense whatsoever. Jason and his team worked on RoF and have plenty of access to the code.

 

What I understood from his explanation is that the current engine is not set up for it and it would take considerable work to do so, which then would take resources from other content/features. So it's all about priotitizing. He said he likes the idea and it would be great, but it might not at the top of their list.

Nice idea, it's just not at the top of the list....nor mine given the entire pipeline of other more important projects for the studio....not just the TC related ones.

Don't know if it work for all servers, but we do have different numbers when we play in our little clan. SCG :gamer:
