Given that Peter Jackson founded his high fidelity WW1 plastic scale construction kit series Wingnut Wings and loves the era, maybe he will one day give us the WW1 movie we all seek?

If some people are to believed, he already has.

J.R.R Tolkien served with the Lancashire Fusiliers on the Somme in 1916 and it would appear, according to some, that his experiences formed the inspiration ( not the word I wanted, but you know what I mean ) for some of the themes and descriptions found in 'The Lord of the Rings'.

Apparently, the character of Sam Gamgee represented Tolkien's experience of the collective character of the British 'Tommy', steadfast, uncomplaining and quietly determined to see the job done.

So maybe, when we are watching Peter Jackson's interpretation of the books, we are really watching the Somme, with oliphaunts instead of tanks, and eagles instead of Albatri......

And of Course, Sir Peter Jackson was responsible for this

I have Blue Max on disc, Dawn Patrol, have a copy of Howard Hughes "Hells Angels" ... Perhaps Zeppelin (1971) might be a good atmospheric watch, any other good WW1 aviation movies?

Yep, got all them, again, I found them enjoyable, but if people watch with their 'purists' head on 24hrs  day, then they will be forever disappointed.

Oh, you forgot to mention the 'Wings' series one and two... a must have for any WWI aviation nut.

This is the promo of Howard Hughes WW1 movie.

This would have had as much impact of Cameron's Titanic  back then in the 30's.

Lady's and gentlemen I present Howard Hughes ... Hells Angels

Around that same time I watched The Blue Max and Aces High.  I thought both were much better than Red Baron.

That's cause Ursula Andress gives you an aerola shot that you put in your spank bank.
