Are the propellers part of 'engine damage'?

Gents,

Sometimes when your machine gets hit, an 'Engine Damage' notification appears, yet the motor is not trailing burned oil or appearing to run too poorly, and can be flown on continuously. The only symptom being a slightly fluctuating RPM. I was wondering perhaps are these one of those times when a bullet damages a propeller blade causing the governor to oscillate in response? Is this actually modeled?

Has anyone tested shooting another plane on the ground with a bomber gunner aimed at the propeller to see if it causes 'Engine damage' notification?

I know the propeller blades can actually be individually hit which is pretty cool, but does it have any effect?

Regards
