catatat Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Hey everyone, im not sure if this is the correct section for a question like this, but what are your thoughts on tank crew currently? Im planning on trying to buy it fairly soon and I was wondering what you do and dont like about it, and also what your thoughts are about the upcoming tanks? Thanks!
namhee2 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) Hello, Tank Crew is not quite finished yet, but I personally enjoy it. There are already some missions who are very good and who also show what will be better in the future. It is still beta but very advanced. Edited June 27, 2019 by namhee2
Finkeren Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I would say, that with the last update, which greatly expanded the damage model of tanks, TC has become really fun to play around with. Be advised though: As a tank simulator, this is still very much in its infancy, and will be even after the game is officially released. It will be much the same situation as when Battle Of Stalingrad was first released. Much development and expansion will still be needed for it to reach its full potential. But the potential is there, and what has been developed so far is actually pretty good. Just don't expect a fully fleshed-out and polished game experience yet. 1
photog95661 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I personally like TC even in its present, limited state. The graphics are awesome, as well as realistic. Realize that it is a sim in its infancy. Progress is being made. Floating wells no longer exist. Hay bales no longer destroy your tank. Given the current state of the aircraft side of the sim, I cannot wait until the full version of TC is released. As for future plans, ask yourself the question of what you are looking for in an Eastern Front sim. The past performance of IL 2 is an indicator of what is coming. Realistic vehicles and scenarios. Desktop tension and elation/frustration. After looking at what is available elsewhere, I doubt there is any question of what one should choose. Look at the facts, evaluate your options and make a decision! 1
Tonk99 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I guess just to make this easier I will give a simple pro and con list with some of my thoughts at the end. Pros: VERY VERY detailed interior, a bunch of small moving parts makes the tanks really feel alive when you are operating it. Very nice bullet physics and overall gun mechanics with the shells actually feeling like you are shooting for example a really big 8.8 in the tiger unlike a lot of games. Crew models are quite nice even though the animations are still a bit funky and you cannot see them from outside of the tank unless they have opened their hatch. Interior damage model for being in such an early state is pretty nice especially with the new update. Specific parts of visors can be broken, fire breaking out and then seeing the flurry of the fire extinguishers. The map that comes with it is very nice especially when going into Phrokorovka everything looks amazing and realistic. And some more smaller details I cannot really think of right now. Cons: Exterior damage model is kinda meh, there are no entry/exit holes and the damage besides exterior fuel tanks are just simply an area of the tank that gets more and more roughed up the more it gets shot. (The parts that can fall of the tank like the fuel tanks still act pretty good and are pretty realistic.) The controls are meh to horrendous depending on how much you like or are comfortable with using the mouse and keyboard. I do not have a huge problem with it except the aiming sometimes as I get stuck in the abyss because I'm looking the exact opposite direction my sight is looking and I get confused. The enemy tank AI is not that great, it is very basic and does not behave very realistically like an actual tank crew would act. Most ground units outside of the new tanks are of somewhat low quality for Tank Crew but that is to be expected Summary: Simply put it if you are a huge tank fan this is probably one of the best ww2 sims right now graphics and ballistics wise. Since it is in a very early state there are plenty of things to be tweaked and added so I would expect most of my cons will be a thing of the past in the near future. I would say if you are getting it purely for the singleplayer I would maybe wait a bit as there is only quick missions you can do and some user created missions which are still quite nice. But if you also enjoy multiplayer it is a pretty good idea to grab it especially since people are usually playing in some servers. Overall I think it is a great little sim at the moment and I love it but it simply has gotten somewhat boring or just out of content a bit fast but that is what you are paying for in such an early access title. I would recommend it but just be aware there are still plenty of little tweaks that need to be fixed, but so far the quality of the tanks in the game so far especially with the new update is absolutely amazing. Hope this helped a bit, have a good day/night. 1 3
catatat Posted June 28, 2019 Author Posted June 28, 2019 Alright so I went ahead and bought tank crew and let me say, it was a very good choice. Me and my friend have been just playing the tanks for probably the past 4 hours straight. Im super happy that I went ahead and bought tank crew, and thank you guys for giving me some reasons as to why I should actually buy it. 2 1 3
pa4tim Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 Be careful, I bought it as a tank fan for single player and because it is a pretty real sim. But I got really hooked on the planes. I think the plane sim is really excellent in every way. ( I think they will get TC to the same high level) Only thing lacking now (next to better aim/turret controls) is more realistic motor controls. I would like to see separate manual controls for shifting, throttle, braking and steering but on the other hand, controlling the tank on your own at this moment is already a hand full. Btw, Some of the other maps are maybe not as detailed but some are still very beautiful. For instance the Kuban map in snow around dusk and dawn times. 1
SCG_Neun Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 (edited) One of the strengths of TC is the integration with the flight element aspect of the Eastern Front. Something unique and to the level of flight physics, damage modeling, etc. that GB has established well....it's a good deal for the serious simmer. For those of us that have fought the good fight.......and hung close to the series, well many of us have faith in the dev's ability to craft TC into the same level of historical simming that the air side of things represent. Suffice to say, it's an investment. Not only that, but this series will spread out to the western front as well......just give it time. Edited June 28, 2019 by SCG_Neun 2
simfan2015 Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Personally I fully agree with other posters ... IMHO IL-2 BOX + TC as 1 integrated game is hard to beat as one Combined Arms battlefield ! This is even better than the "DCS World" enveronment as everything seems much more as one and the same sim/battlefield. I love DCS too of course (who doesn't ?), but I am starting to really love IL-2/TC even more ! (disclaimer : I'm just dipping my toes into it though). IL-2 BOX + TC somehow feels 'alive', not as sterile as DCS and so many other (true) 'sims'.
Eicio Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 I'm really looking for tank crew but I had the feeling it was too early to jump into it and get frustrated. Now that the damage model is here, well I believe so from what I've heard, I may get into it but I have the feeling that it is maybe too early yet... I mean I know/play steel fury with the sta mod and the only point that keeps it from being the best tank sim ever is the terrible game's performances : you gotta love playing 20 frames per second with the best of the computers. Still, even if TC runs perfectly well and smooth (and is beautiful), I fear that the lack of infantry, trenches, bunkers and full scale battles between tanks would break my enthusiasm. For the ones who know what I'm talking about do you think I'm wrong or should I wait a little more longer ?

Tyberan Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 I'm finding it hard to get into. It's pretty rough and devs are putting more refinements into it but it feels like the neglected step child in their development. To be honest I wish I spent the money on FC instead.
Panzerlang Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 I won't be bothering with it until/if the VR gets properly implemented in it.
WIS-Redcoat Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 (edited) I am VERY excited to get into this game; but they really need to get the controls sorted out and better VR use (head tied to the hull rather than the turret basket and gunsight use). Its exciting to get into these machine and see all the detail work. I have faith it'll get there. Edited July 30, 2019 by WIS-Redcoat
simfan2015 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 (edited) TC is indeed not yet finished, but we already got the map and 8 of the 10 tanks. As a standalone sim with only 1 map it would not be that special but because it is integrated into BOX this compliments the already superb environments. TC will grow (I hope) and we will later also be able to do tank battles (single missions and campaigns) into the Bulge and the bigger cities of the Bodenplatte/Rhine map. To me TC is really exciting and worth it if only to enjoy looking at the incredible 3D exteriql models, 3D interiors and even simply driving around looking at the awesome IL-2 world from ... below. We will also get two campaigns for it later on. Mo, I don't regret getting *anything* I bought from IL-2 and surely not TC and FC ! As they say ... Best money ever spent ! ... true in this case (IMHO). regards, Stefaan Edited July 30, 2019 by simfan2015

simfan2015 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 You are right ! Sorry about that !!! So much the better ! Thanks. Stefaan
