Spook109 Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 (edited) Worked fine prior to updating to 3.101 tonite. Now, when I launch the game, I get the black logo screen for about 5 seconds then dumped back to the desktop. Windows 10 64-bit, up to date. Event viewer shows: Faulting application name: Il-2.exe, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x5d027355 Faulting module name: SoundEngine.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5d027069 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x0000000000003994 Faulting process id: 0x1f08 Faulting application start time: 0x01d52a402a2612f3 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\game\Il-2.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\game\SoundEngine.dll Report Id: 019f6cbf-446b-403c-8dd2-808e3e52b0eb Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SYSTEM INFORMATION _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ OS version: Windows 10 , 10.0, version 1803, build: 17134 (x64) Hardware: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC., ROG CROSSHAIR VII HERO (WI-FI) GPU: Nvidia RTX 2080 CPU: AuthenticAMD AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor Logical processors: 16 Processor groups: 1 RAM: 32688 MB total _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ CPU SPEED _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Reported CPU speed: 3992 MHz Replaced the following files from a backup made about a week ago (prior to update 3.101) but it didn't fix. Still experiencing the same crash at launch. il-2.exe launcher.exe SoundEngine.dll Edited June 24, 2019 by porkchopper
Velxra Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 (edited) Right click the launcher exe and uncheck/turn off read only. That seems to be the fix. If that does not work try deleting the update folder and downloading the update again. You can also try just launching the game directly from the iL-2.exe in the bin/game folder, that is what I do via shortcut. Edited June 24, 2019 by Geronimo553
Spook109 Posted June 26, 2019 Author Posted June 26, 2019 Figured it out. I have integrated sound on my motherboard (Realtek High Definition Audio) as well as a PCIe sound card (Creative Labs). When I switched audio from Realtek to Creative Labs, IL-2 launched and ran without issue. Apparently 3.101 does not like Realtek. Makes sense given the error logged in Event Viewer. I'll create a new post with this info to hopefully get it on the dev's radar. They can delete if redundant. Hope this gives anyone else experiencing the issue an avenue of investigation. Quote Right click the launcher exe and uncheck/turn off read only. Appreciat the help Geronimo! Looked back through many backups and this file's permissions were all read/write, so wasn't a thing for me. No doubt it's helped others and is definitely an easy fix for those lucky enough to have the issue limited to that file. If Windows actually worked right, it'd be Mac - but Mac doesn't have a WWII flight sim. So here I am. ?

Hmm it might be best if a mod combined the two threads together or if you provides links to both threads in each thread. This launching problem has been a big pain for people since the update released. Hopefully your solution will work for others as well. I'm glad you actually found another way of solving the issue as the current read only fix does not seem to work for everyone. Now they have more options at least. I will note I also have realtek sound drivers and I do not have an issue with the game running. I'm on windows 10 64 bit though.
