Blitzen Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 I have recently purchased a Vive head-strap to use to replace the stock one that came with the Pimax5K. I know there are “printable’ conversion connectors that are available .I have tried to go through the process of having a third party download ,print & send me the 5 or 6 parts that click in to the Vive head-strap , but for some reason the whole ( new) process did not work and the parts have not arrived. For now I’m going to try the “Velcro” solution pitches on YouTube and see if this works well enough to keep,BUT I’d rather have the parts designed for this purpose. Has anyone an easy to access source where I can order & be assured they will arrive in a few days? I’d be very grateful. Asa n side bar ,can someone who has installed these parts , what do you use as connecting straps between the converted Vive head-straps & the Pimax headset? Thanks!

Blitzen Posted June 23, 2019 Author Posted June 23, 2019 Ah one of these is right here in Seattle...will call them tomorrow.I’m assuming they’ll have some idea about what I’m talking about.....Am getting my PC back today,so I’ll first try the easy Velcro solution. It looks as if either way I’ll have to add some thick foam cushion to the back inside of the Vive headstrap to get a tighter fit on my head. I have been assured by Pimax Support that they will have a purpose designed Pimax head-strap ready to go this Summer sometime & I’ll get to test it when available.Good news!
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 (edited) Yeah it seems they got their stuff ready (Controllers, Headstrap, face cushions) to ship in the second package together with Lighthouses. They seem to be waiting for enough stock of the Lighthouses which are supplied by Valve... who'll only serve them after the release of the Index. Going with the Lighthouses turnt into a PR catastrophe for Pimax in the beginning of the year, because they couldn't deliver them. Valve made their own plans (Index) and broke with HTC who are going inside-out-tracking now. Valve are manufacturing Lighthouses by themselves . No license manufacture of them, you got to go through Valve now - a direct competitor. People might get impatient and buy Index Controllers + LHs directly at Valve, who might look like this now: P.S. This is no silly conspiracy theory, the Valve bottleneck had been mentioned months ago by Pimax members. Wether the decision to go with Valve's Lighthouse system was a good one, at the time nobody knew about the Index, or not at all, is highly debatable. WMR, Oculus, HTC went with their own solution. I'll judge for myself by August. Edited June 23, 2019 by SCG_Fenris_Wolf
Blitzen Posted June 24, 2019 Author Posted June 24, 2019 Will post these elsewhere with more of an explanation....as well.but here is the headset solution that seems to work quite well for me. vive headset, Velcro strap mod , foam , and an extra layer layer velcro'd to stock foam in front.Seems to solve nearly all "fitting" problems I was having : 1
chiliwili69 Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Thanks for the pictures. it is really a shame that a great headset like Pimax5K+ requires to mod the fixing in order to satisfactorily play for hours. This is something Pimax should address. Not all people is ready to start doing hardware mods.
