SJ75 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 hi everyone and hi devs, just tried out the new qmb. it's fantastic! it adds so much fun to set anything like you want it to. now i can strafe ground targets without being harassed by 5 aaa positions (no fun if you were the only plane, as it was before). or just do a quick dogfight with as many planes as i want to. lot's of possibilities to improve your skills here. that's the definitive game mode for me. already had tons of fun with it in rise of flight. thank you very much for everything you've done so far! this sim rocks! cheers!
SCG_Neun Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I second that! Fired up a quick mission with 16 of us going at it.....It was awesome!
Finkeren Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 It really lets you see a completely different side of the sim. You really get to experience the AI fighting in groups. So far, they seem to do alright, at least they're not crashing into one another, and even the LaGGs can kinda hold their own against the 109s. You get to see the awesomeness of the lighting. What we've seen so far with either complete darkness or mid-day sunshine are actually the 2 least interesting ways to view this sim. It looks absolutely stunning in twillight and even better with the sun low in the sky. Lots more depth to textures and awesome colors. You also get different cloud covers, which are well done and really adds different atmosphere to the environment, as well as making air combat a good deal more interesting. All in all, it's great and it's gonna be a favourite game mode of mine, at least until we get a truly dynamic campaign.
Nil Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 A LOT more aggressive AI! First try a Lagg almost got me on first head on, but I smoked him a bit, and lost my bearings out of the surprise, only to get a second headon pass when I finally found him again, luckily I got him on that pass.. but both where more luck then skill. Will play a lot more when I wake up.
SOLIDKREATE Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Yeah man I love it. I just went up against 8 Yak-1's and I got two and made another smoke. Then I forgot my engine was at 1.4ata and I burned her up.
FlyingNutcase Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 The same general feelings here. Amazing look and feel at 8am which is the only time I flew. I set up a train busting mission. The train had great looking smoke and the explosions of the carriages was as realistic as I could hope for. The only thing that raised an eyebrow was that the train had its headlight on. I can't imagine that being too realistic. Hopefully it'll change. But the future is looking bright. Looking forward to flying with and against you guys. S!
ST_ami7b5 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Love QMB. Will spend much more time in BoS now. Practicing hard.
Caudron431 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Yes, the QMB will be excellent to get used to the new IL2BOS environment and to learn to push the new FMs to the limits. I will need a lot of practice, only then will i step in the online world again. Patiently waiting for trim to be implemented to the game: then i will be completely happy Thanks 1CGS, i definitely love the QMB, and btw guys, you made it: what a beautiful sim you made!
Georgio Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 As promised first QMB was against 4 stukas in a Yak. Unfortunately for me the stuka gunners weren't as green as their pilots and they obliterated me on the first pass. Still I did get one of their number so we're quits for now. One thing that I really like about this sim which is so different and adds to the tension is the sound, or more specifically, the lack of external sound. There you are happily flying along when suddenly tracer snakes past your cockpit ( if you're lucky) no roaring enemy engine, no chatter of MG's just you, your engine, the wind and the everpresent threat of obliteration in a heartbeat. Nice, and exactly how it was and therefore should be.
FlatSpinMan Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 It's superb. Dev's - my hat is doffed. If development stopped now, I would have enough to last me a couple of years. A little imagination and the "random" feature in the QMB allows for a lot of immersion. I really like the fact that there are different locations to fly from on the ma. And, it's way smoother than I expected on my feeble PC. Now I just need to get the sound back...

Endy Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 FSM ---- If you have no sound still, did you try deleting the 'radio' file from data/audio? As for the QMB, love it. Great job 777.
Thorben_R Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 This is just what I've been waiting for! I just had a really intense fight 4 Yaks and 4 LaGGs against 8 Bf-109s. I'm amazed at how capable the Yak-1 is against AI 109s, especially compared to the version we had in the old Il-2, which was kind of a dog IMO. Was the engine really capable of running at such high rpms or is their dm/cem just not fully modelled yet?
Emgy Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) Probably flew the 1940 version Yak-1? The Yak-1 in bos has the M105PF, same engine as Yak-1B. In IL2 '46 HSFX you can fly a Yak-1PF '42 , it's very capable against a 109F-4 in that game as well. Edited March 29, 2014 by Calvamos

On the same note I think that planes didn't use their landing light while taking off/landing during a combat mission near the front. The AI planes use it everytime...
Bearcat Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I like the way this whole thing is going.. and the lighting is great... I like the way the AI doesn't seem to gang bang you .... They seem to fight like pilots who want to take you down but not put their lives on the line unnecessarily to do it.. The options and interface in the QMB are pretty varied too and simply laid out.. Thde only thing I wouldf have liked to see is the ability to set the skill level of individual pilots but I guess like in IL2 that will be in the FMB.
ST_ami7b5 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 ^^ This plus saving/loading (favourite) quick missions.
FlatSpinMan Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Hah! I played a few times - still no sound. Checked sound settings in game - fine. Restarted the game, same problem. Rebooted - same problem. FINALLY thought to check the PC audio settings. Sure enugh, my little girls (6 & 4) had turned the sound off while I was in the shower.
SCG_Neun Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I hit a locomotive on a strafing run and it erupted........debris everywhere. Very cool.

Gort Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 The AI is pretty good. Hitting the merge with an 8v8 looks pretty real, with chaos and great difficulty identifying enemy vs friendlies, which is exactly as it should be. The canopy crazing, reflections, sound of buffeting are all great. All that is missing is maybe sun glint off of aircraft windshields. You'd think the 109 would be particularly vulnerable to giving away it's position that way. While hanging in my chute (don't ask), I observed a 109 go vertical, depart, enter an inverted spin, recover, then climb back into the fight. Very cool. When the battle was over, the remaining Snappers bugged out together, in a rag tag mass, but all in the same direction, maneuvering individually to roll out in a heading for home. It looks pretty realistic to me, having been in a furball or three...
