Hi,

I found these two in the Osprey book, "Jet Aces". Might be worth a try by one of you guys? Kommando Novotny planes seem to have had a characteristic fin camo pattern and yellow markings?

No, no, no, no, no, no! Those are very old profiles based on very poor research (which Osprey is infamous for). That is not what Kdo Nowotny's 262s looked like. The proper renditions of those particular planes is already in the game.

Required reading on Kdo Nowotny skin research:

Don't go down that rabbit hole sevenless. Edit: too late, you woke him up ?

The markings above are from JV44 machines found at Innsbruck in Austria during May 1945, which would make it very unlikely to be Nowotny's white 8, which was destroyed in NW Germany in Nov 1944.  In fact both Schall's White 1 and Nowotny's White 8 are part of the stock skins but with camo schemes that are far more indicative of Kommando Nowotny aircraft.  It should also be noted that the tadpole camo tail was never indicative of Kommando Nowotny 262s.

Here is an interesting thread on the JV44 White 8 photos.

So those 262 schemes are very nice and I would love to see them done, just make sure they are described as belonging to JV44 :)

@Luke and ICDP: Thanks for the Infos and links. I wasn´t aware of those details. Just found them in the book. Nevertheless, even if outdated, and more likely associated to JV44, those would make nice additions.

Late Edit: Because I have a Question one of you might be able to answer. That yellow band behind the Cockpit (I always thought it was indicative of Kdo. Nowotny as suggested by the Osprey book).

Was that indicative of JV44 or was it only found on machines which were in prior use with EJG 2 or was it indicative of something entirely different? Does anyone has any infos on that?

Late Edit 2: Found White 1 also in a later Osprey publication about JV44:

jv44.jpg

Caption reads:

14 Me 262A-1a ‘White 1’ of JV 44, Munich-Riem and Innsbruck-Hötting, April-May 1945 Quite how this aircraft ended up with JV 44 is not known, but from the camouflage pattern on the tail assembly (82 over 76), it would appear to have at one time been assigned to Kommando Nowotny, and perhaps even Erprobungskommando 262. The nose area features large areas of 81 sprayed over 82, while the pattern on the fuselage sides breaks down into more of a mottle of the same colours. The tactical number ‘1’ forward of the cockpit was in white (this also appeared on the nosewheel door), while the band forward of the fuselage cross was in yellow. A small white ‘S’ was painted on the very rear fuselage beneath the horizontal stabiliser – evidence perhaps of a ‘Schul’ (school) machine, which suggests that this may have been an aircraft joining JV 44 from III./ EJG 2.

It would be a shame to hold back those skins, wouldn´t it?

Just found these profiles of a machine which was used by Staff I./KG51 (9K+FB). Obviously those machines used green letters and nose+fintips. If someone is interested that would be highly appreciated.

Another very interesting skin. Flew with Kommando Welter from Burg/Magdeburg and intercepted Mosquitos.

It's an old default skin that has since been updated.
