Hey guys and gals...just as the title says very intermittent but for a split second at times while flying in IL2 I’m getting a very quick “flash” of white while wearing the Rift S in VR. I’ve never experienced this with the Rift when I had it on. It’s tough to describe, game doesn’t hang or anything it’s just as if the scene it’s showing momentarily tears or something and then only for a split second. It’s very quick but enough for me to notice. In a half hour of flying it may happen anywheres from one to three times.

I don’t know if it’s a hardware malfunction on my headset only and I need to return it, something hardware-wise that is common right now until a firmware update comes along or something related to software interaction. I guess if I’m the only one it spells doom for my headset and I need to get working on a return then.

Thanks for your input!

I have this also. It's not IL-2's fault. Happens in other apps. There is a thread on Oculus Reddit site about it.

Seems to be quite common. I think it doesn't mean our Rifts will brick soon.

It's annoying but not too frequent.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I was sure it was something related to the Rift S and not IL2 though I had not tested the Rift S with any other programs as of yet. Gonna check out the thread and thanks again. Means I’ll just keep a hold of my headset then and hopefully a fix will come out.

UPDATE: Okay, seems like it’s being posted as “white static frame” which describes it to a tee”! Glad I’m not the only one then!

Apparently the thread is noted as Oculus is aware of the situation regarding the flashing:

” If these steps do not resolve this behavior, we ask for your patience as we work on firmware improvements that will be ready shortly after launch.”

Other than the screen flash every so often I don’t have any of the other problems people are listing such as black screens, etc. so firmware update is needed from Oculus at some point hopefully sooner than later. Tracking works superbly, recognizes USB port no problems, fires up automatically each time IL2 is started. God awful sound though. But that’s in another post.

Just to confirm what Banzai says, Oculus devs are aware of this and say they are working on a firmware fix :)

Yeah I think most if not all are experiencing this.

I get them occasionally in my Rift S, thankfully it is not very frequent.

Hopefully a firmware update will take care of it once they figure it out.

Agreed! And thanks again. Best part of course you realize you are not alone in this which means a fix is in the works.

My usual course of action action is to Google the crap out of a problem only to realize I’m the only one in the ENTIRE UNIVERSE that is having a said problem...sigh...so this is welcomed news for once! Story of my life it seems.

I have no sound in Oculus First Steps demo which is annoying since it's first time I felt the presence in VR world.

I had used CV1 before but had no touch controlers and was more of a spectator experience.

Yesterday I tried First Steps and being in that trailer and interacting with stuff and that little robot made me feel like I was there. If there was sound it would be even more awesome.

I googled if anyone has same problem and found only one thread on Oculus forum with no answers.

If you are on Windows 10 1903 there was an update recently to it that fixes the audio issue in the Rift S.

Search for Windows updates and make sure you have all updates for 1903.

Then you will get that audio back for those Oculus apps it is missing in.

Hmm. Looks like I'm on the older Windows, 1809. Do I want the new one? Gah, silly Windows.

Yeah I am surprised it happened on 1809, 1903 and then the windows updates for it should take care of it.

I have nothing to add except what dburne already suggested. I used to be awful with updates both in Windows and with video drivers. The thinking was always “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” sorta thing but learned that can be a double edged swords at times. Now Windows is always up to date along with graphics. No sound issues at all here - knock on wood.

Software issues can be like chasing shadows at times. Fix one thing then another issue pops up but really think the update should cure your ills. Keep us posted.

As a side note, in order to try to squeeze some more horsepower out of VR I’ve also gone ahead and turned off automatic updates to Steam in order to keep them from downloading in the background as IL2 I have as a stand alone product. Don’t know how much it helps though. Was suggested somewhere on the forums here.

 Cheers!

Not a bad idea, the last Steam update seems to have hurt my VR performance in IL-2.

Going to try uninstalling and reinstalling Steam VR next to see if that helps any.

How do I get the Oculus firmware updates? Think I'm still on the older version of Rift Software. Do I need the latest W10 to get the Oculus firmware updates? I have been through all the menus I can't see where the manual update install is located. Or does it automatically update?

I'm having some slower performance in IL2 as well...maybe it has to do with the SteamVR update. The first weekend I got my Rift S just flying around Kuban quick mission I was getting 60-80fps, only dipped to 40 on occasion. Then the last week or two doing the same missions I've been locked in the 40-60 range. I haven't made any changes in SteamVR or Oculus Home as far as I can remember.

Yeah sounds like something fishy with the latest Steam VR update.

Ok so regarding Oculus Software, the current release version is 1.37.

The next version, 1.38 - is currently in what they call Public Test Channel.

You can get it along with any firmware update it might have, by selecting the Public Test Channel in the Beta tab in your settings menu.

Once selected it will download and install automatically.

All Oculus updates are automatic, a new release version rolls out to everyone over the course of a few days.

Public Test Channel, once opted in to, will automatically roll out the day they send a new version out.

I am running the 1.38 PTC. Once it gets through their testing in the PTC in will then roll out to release version.

Edit: Looks like Oculus just posted a little earlier today that version 1.38 is now rolling out as the release version, so you should get it automatically over the next few days.

https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/77160/rift-1-38-release-rolling-out-now#latest

However you should still be able to opt in to the PTC and maybe get it right away if you wish.

Hmmm. I have also been having audio problems. I'm going to force-install the 1903 update and see how that does (for some reason 1903 wasn't an option within Windows Update, and I needed to use their "Update Assistant" to force it to start installing).
