StarLightSong Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Like peas in a pod—the similarities between the de Havilland Mosquito and the Messerschmitt Me 410 are pretty darn obvious in this image and their roles were similar. This 410 (Luftwaffe code F6+OK) was formerly of 2(F)/122, which landed intact and was captured at Monte Corvino, Italy when the crew had become lost during a photo–reconnaissance mission in the Naples area. This aircraft wears the P for Prototype roundels showing she was at RAF Boscombe Down for testing. [Wolf]ArcaneRebel Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Flying over my hometown of Tillamook, Oregon. In WW2 it was a major west coast naval air base comprising mostly of USN patrol blimp squadrons. I live 5 minutes from the hanger. It is considered the largest wooden construction in the world. Today it is a museum with a pretty nice lineup of ww2 aircraft. These are a few including the worlds only flying Nakajima Ki-43-IIIb Hayabusa. 1

FuriousMeow Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I thought this was an interesting photo. It's a Kate belching smoke with the rear gunner peering over the side, and he doesn't appear to have a chute either.

sturmkraehe Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Is this a Merlin engine? The airframe seems to be a Dewoitine, doesn't it? Which one? I always mix them up. I hope to see this lend-lease plane in BoS:
DD_bongodriver Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Don't forget it's pictures of aircraft Arthur. Awesome beast
PB0_Foxy Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Is this a Merlin engine? The airframe seems to be a Dewoitine, doesn't it? Which one? I always mix them up. This is a Dewoitine D520 and the engine is a Hispano-Suiza 12Y-49. A very good engine build under license in russia under the name of Klimov M-100. This engine became the base of the famous M-105 series who equiped the yaks and the Pe-2. an other French plane: Arsenal VG33
DD_Arthur Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Don't forget it's pictures of aircraft Arthur. Sometimes its difficult to separate the moment from the machines. But you're right;
DD_bongodriver Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Nice selection Arthur. this always makes me think ' is this what happens if a Lancaster and a B-24 have a baby?'
MiloMorai Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Don't forget it's pictures of aircraft Arthur. Awesome beast That is from the movie 633 Squadron

MiGCap Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I was at that show. Coldest I've ever been in Florida... More from that show... http://www.aero-pix.com/jax11/ppage.htm You're damn right. I didn't feel my cold finger at the trigger of the camera ... Franz von Werra and his plane.... ;-) Colourized, I suppose ... The collar tab is grey and not yellow as it should be.
Corto Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) @Mig of course colourized, but IMHO very nice. ;-) @all watch the weathering.... USA 1945 Edited May 7, 2014 by Corto
