Me 262 canopy

Really loving the Schwalbe - once I got the engines started (thanks Requiem :good:) - but a couple of times I have accidentally opened, and lost, the canopy at high speed. Now I can make adjustments on my HOTAS to prevent me doing this again, but would this have been so easy in reality? Other aircraft in the sim won't let you open canopies at high speed unless you bail out. Shouldn't the 262 have a canopy lock, especially when considering its speed? Mind you, losing the canopy doesn't seem to affect the pilot; it just makes the whole flight a lot noisier!

It has a lock at the left side. But IIRC it was the way to bail out of the 262, to open the canopy and let it get blown away by the wind flow.

Also, part of the key press is undoing the canopy lock, so it is a bit of a moot point if there is one. Also opening the canopy at speed to jettison it is something I do before ditching in the 109 at least, so i rather like having the option available.

There's an emergency canopy release on the right hand side.

Am I crazy, or wasn't there waaaaaaay back in the original Stalingrad beta phases a separate key to jettison the canopy in flight?

Yes, there was.

Yes you are right, opening with the lever at the left side was just in the case, that the canopy wasn't ejected by the springs after pulling the emergency lever.

Ah. It was a small thing, but shame we lost it. It shall live on in my heart.
