Is there any list of all the airfields in the maps showing their position and length, as there is in Cliffs of Dover? I can't find any base to easy take off the Me 262...

Choise Lapino Dubki airfield, it´s long enought near 1700- 1800 meters

Moscow map, klin airfield, ref 0920 I think - plenty long enough (1400m) and concrete. Also Kalinin on same map 1150m also concrete - this also available in QM (unlike klin)

Anyone have any good ones? I was able to takeoff/land from kerch and Vnukovo (just outside of moscow), but it was pretty scary.

Not tried it, But Kalach, on the Stalingrad map, is available on the QMB (grid 1019), and has a long runway (the N-S one, not the E-W one) Must be about 1500 m. Dirt, but no trees etc at either end.

That would be really good!! not just for 262!

Ps u can get IT up from most fields with a LOT of BACKTRACKING! Just dial in a hell of a load of flap at the point when u think u are going to crash.

Velikie Luki,  Grid Ref 0916, near Kovali.  Easy take off and landing with runway to spare.

Will be much easier with Bodenplatte map, just take some piece of german Autobahn?

I couldnt take off in Kuban fields with bombs on. Tried a lot, good fun though.

Have you tried Anapa? Maybe the Clif at the end of the runway helps.

For my one and only flight I just went into the quick mission section and took off from the airfield near Novorossiysk (1419).  It was a bit tight and I did overrun the end of the runway before lifting off but I probably did not do it right anyway as had 100% fuel and forgot to add any trim.

did you use 20-30% flaps before pull up, and pull up at around 200kmh, i could take off with 100% fuel and 2x250kg from 800m runways (most of them on Kuban) going a little of end.

Anapa on the Kuban QMB works alright. I was just able to make it off at full fuel (no bombs) and I could probably have done better if I taxiied back a little further.

I tried Sochi in Kuban but a bit too short for a greenhorn ;)

That is exactly what I meant, thanks so much!

A little flaps, trim and power break it. Also it helps to start few meters off the back of the runway.

50% fuel is your friend ?

Do you hold the breaks while the turnines gain rpm or you didn't find it necessary?

Not really, except if you want running out of fuel.

The best airfield is on Veliki luki in square 804. Use the ice lake.  For full fuel and bombs, it's the one which is the best in length.

Fair enough, but I meant for sight-seeing. At 50% you can get off from anywhere.

Marsh - ones I used in testing

Adler on bottom SE corner of kuban map, Klin or Solidovolo (near kalinin) on Moscow map are both concrete. Can get up full fuel from these fairly easy. There are a lot on Stalingrad, leninsky close to Stlingrad was pretty good, but these are all dusty and require a bit more of a stick pull to force up

This thing is just begging for a super long "test" runway like at Edwards, with night lighting.

That would be beaucoup fun!

I tried Rjev at grid 1005-3 in moscow map, using all the taxiing roads (total its like 3 times the runway length)

Didnt even ever notice that runway lol, it looks promising

The best way to take off is to do it historically, rolling onto the runway from the ramp at max ground turn speed, full toe brake and full power so you get a little extra speed from the start.  Doing this I can take off from the southern field on the kuban map and clear the trees with full load plus bombs and no flaps.  IIRC when they did photo recon of the fields they could see the rounded streak marks on the tarmac from that takeoff roll.

Otherwise it helps to drop full flaps at the last second and hang back on the stick.  Some of the runways are very unforgiving with trees and such at the end.

It would be super cool to have a airfield charts as well with some basic info like runway length, material and bearing.  Like a pulldown menu in map selection maybe.

For those short runways we could need the start rockets, that were ignited at 160-175km/h and jettisoned when airborn. They are mentioned in the manual, but I did not see a photo of them.

Posted

I was just reading about them, apparently they reduced take off distance by 300-400 meters. They werent used very often, the other issue with them was that sometimes they didnt start exactly the same time causing severe yaw issues.

As Ariana showed in the video above - you need to taxi back further than the normal takeoff point and you can then get out of most airfields.

There is a chart like that somewhere..  I just can't find it.   As I recall, you just rolled over the airfield with the cursor and the runway info would appear.

I bet someone in our universe can direct us to it.  :)

Yeap - taxi back, hold the brakes, spool up the engines to 6.5K min start then release and add throttle.  Be sure to set trim and flaps before spooling up engines.  Landing not a prob on smaller fields, set landing point early and she'll pull up easily.  Just don't come in hot.?

There are stretches of long, straight dirtroads in game already. The problem with those is you can't go too far of the center or you'll lose directional control and have the landing-gear crunched.

If we had a mission-design tool to flatten these roads to maybe thre or four widths and have spawnpoints attached to them (like you could in IL-2'46), you could fairly easily build just that on existing maps.

There's plenty of options just around Krasnodar alone:

I kind of hoped they might include a long airfield  in the update, but it was not to be.

Can we make one in the _________ ____________, does it include options to make runways?
