They're not relatively as bad as some suggest.

If you know how to be evasive they can give a good Camel a run for it's money at least.

Stay in the game and it's all about who's wings get over-stressed first.

 

They can certainly do well in those crazy dogfights over the Somme if you're careful and know when to quit. But they're a shadow from ROF (although I wouldn't like to meet a Camel there either).
