Koala63 Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 (edited) Finally got my Rift S - my first VR. Blown away by DCS but cant try IL2 as it hangs on the first loading screen each time I attempt to launch from the Launcher. I eventually give up waiting and go to Task Manager which says IL2 is not responding. Then, each time I also loose mouse control, task manager refuses to close IL2 via keyboard commands and I end up having to restart the computer. If I disable the Occulus background programs via task manager, then once again IL2 launches normally for 2D gaming. So I'm reasoning that something about my IL2 install is conflicting with Occulus. Really looking forward to purchasing Flying Circus for VR as soon as I can get airborn in Russian skies. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. PS. I'm a computer numpty, so keep suggestions simple for the old guy please. Thanks and S! Edited June 10, 2019 by Koala63
dburne Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 Sounds like you have something conflicting there. Does it do the same if you start the game with the IL-2.exe rather than the Launcher.exe?
Koala63 Posted June 10, 2019 Author Posted June 10, 2019 Thanks for the suggestion dburne. No joy unfortunately. Same result for starting from launcher or from starting directly from il2.exe file. Endless hang on the load screen. I noticed instances of "Nahimic VR" running as background processes while I was in task manager. I remembered that some Nahimic thing used to give me grief with CloD at one stage. So I shut them down for a giggle and gave it a whirl with Occulus still running. Il2 did indeed start up and didnt hang, but only in 2D. Occulus didnt recognise it. Don't really know where to start to look to sort it.
Koala63 Posted June 10, 2019 Author Posted June 10, 2019 Erm... No. I have a separate non-steam installation of IL2. I do have Steam but currently don't play any VR games on it. So I hadn't thought it necessary to tinker with Steam VR yet. I had assumed that IL2 would run via the Occulus software...no?

No, IL-2 requires Steam VR - it does not natively support Oculus. You need to install Steam VR and set it up for your Rift S. I personally set it to manual at 100%, otherwise it will adjust your resolution for what it decides is best. Edit: Note once you have Steam VR installed, you do not have to launch Steam after that. Steam VR will start automatically and independently of Steam when you launch IL-2 with VR selected in the options. 43 minutes ago, Koala63 said: Thanks for the suggestion dburne. That seems a little odd, I do not show a Nahimic VR process on my system. https://www.shouldiremoveit.com/Nahimic-VR-190595-program.aspx Sounds like a software program you have installed , maybe came with a sound driver or something. Koala63 Posted June 11, 2019 Author Posted June 11, 2019 OK. All good. I struggled last night. Installed Steam VR and tried to work out whats going on. It seems that it cannot detect the Rift-S without the Occulus software running in the background. Steam VR also seems to think that my Rift-S is a CV1. Anyway no joy last night. Tried again today after noting that there had been a patch to the Occulus software last night. Pressed a few random buttons sort of and PRESTO! It loaded. I love DCS but IL2 VR is bloody great! I flew a Macchi up into clouds and when the rain drops ran down the canopy I ... well... I'm getting Flying Circus tonight. And a new Gfx card. And new controllers. Thanks for the advice. ? 1
