On the new Bodenplatte map, will there be any new tree types modeled.

or will it be the same set off tree types as we have now.

i know this maybe bit boring for some people, but I am a bit off a tree buff, ?

I'm guessing you're a fellow HS129 afficianado.  Trees do make up a very large part of the flying experience for us.

I never fly the HS-129, it’s just asking to hit some trees flying that thing ?

I think it’s cliffs of Dover blitz, the tree damage profile you can hit the top off a tree and be ok,but if you hit lower down

, things fly off your plane and crash is almost always fatal

Hs-129 aficionado? I'm somewhat of an aficionado myself.

Hehe. Not to mention you can get real familiar like, with a tree, without being destroyed by it.

Now for the serious business: are trees all that diverse,  between Russia and NW europe? It should be mostly conifers, right? Other than the conifers from where I live, all pine trees are more or less the same.

PS: our local, unique pine trees:

Not boring at all. I'm a tree buff myself.

I do not know but I think elm trees might have been quite widespread.

ok they are rare now only a few hundred mature elm trees left in the uk ( Dutch elm disease)

anyway a few more tree types in the new map would be quite nice too crash into I think !!?

There are still "a lot" of elms here, but they are going the way of the dodo. Dutch Elm ravaged them big time. Most of the elms we take down are a foot across or less. At that point most are dead or dying. We took down a huge one years ago, maybe five or six-feet across at the base, but elms that size are very rare now.

Yes they were a feature off the British countryside, we had a huge one near where I lived as a kid.

in my part of England ( Norfolk ) only three are known to exist.

such a shame as such a beautiful tree.

they are making a come back I have read.

Only to be joined in their possible demise by the mighty Beech of late, it seems... :sorry:

And will trees still be the biggest parachute predator? Lost a few pilots when my chute broke on top of some pine trees..

One of the awesome things about the 1CGS map team is that they actually DO care about those kinds of details.

I'm sure if there needs to be new trees, there will be new trees and they will be in the correct places on the map.

There used to be incredible numbers American Chestnut's where I live. Many old "log pen" barns in my area were constructed with the logs in the 19th century and are still standing. We had one such barn on our farm, and I remember once trying to drive a nail into one of the 120+ year old logs...NOPE. Its a shame what diseases can do to trees. The blight has killed all but maybe a few hundred where there use to be millions, and I'm afraid the Ash trees are next with the introduction of "emerald ash borer" (non-indigenous beetle).

Trees are such a fascinating topic.  As I look back on my life, my only regret is that I didn't become an Arborist....

Yep, there's another. I've done a lot of work with Ash in my time and I have this strange association in that whenever I actually smell cut Ash it reminds me of the smell of the top of our youngest's head when she was a baby (Don't ask me why because she's FAR from wooden and she has a child of her own these days!!}.

Yes trees are going too play a big part in the introduction off the me-262.

why ( properly because most off the runways will be too short too take off from)

?☠️

There will be plenty of airfields on the new map that will be able to handle the 262 just fine.

You folks always have it worse than we do "down south" :)

The mossies are pretty prolific now with all the rain we've had.

Up here too...black flies weren’t too bad this season, I think the spring was too cool for them, but the skeeters are terrible!

Yes this year's rainfall and flooding has boomed the skeedo population. It's like the 90s all over again.

Morning,

They haven't been too bad so far, but where we're working on Monday is gonna be horrible.

And if I may play the part of fan boy and repeat myself for the umpteenth time, your site looks great and is a lot of fun! :drinks:

Colin does a great job with everything I’ve noticed, including but not limited to his trailers. :)
