HagarTheHorrible Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 I feel restricted when trying to look up, I always feel there is a blind spot that ordinarily I should be able to see into ( RoF was the same). It might be argued that this is a game feature to mimic real life restrictions, if it is, I think it restricts it too much and the argument doesn't seem to carry through to looking backwards which seems, by contrast, overly generous.
Emgy Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) quick check, what are you using to look around, trackir, facetrack, mouse? etc Edited March 23, 2014 by Calvamos
HagarTheHorrible Posted March 23, 2014 Author Posted March 23, 2014 TrackIR 5, I haven't tried snap views or anything other than TrackIR so can't say if there is any difference. I just can't help feeling there is a blind spot above me that means that when I transition my view from left to right or vice versa I lose contact even though I know the target is directly above me. 1
Alex_Serbanescu Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Same for me - also using TIR5 - looking up is a problem and if the contact above moves behind I loose track of it. 1
Nil Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 It's just to turn head up backwards and you can follow what is happening?
Dave Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I have had the same issue using TIR5 with RoF and BoS. I transition to looking over my (virtual) shoulder before i reach the point of looking straight up as the lock at 90 degrees, the pause and following rapid rotation to a rear over-shoulder attitude can be very disorienting just when you really need to retain focus and tracking. It would be less of an issue (smoother transition) if the point where the view locks was a bit aft of vertical. 1
gx007 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Me too. I use TIR3 with clip-on. Maybe it's representative of a real cockpit effect.
Dave Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Maybe it's representative of a real cockpit effect. Not that I've experienced.
HagarTheHorrible Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 After a bit of investigation, to my mind, it seems to be the view directly up when facing forwards as opposed to looking up when facing left or right, which by contrast feels absolutely fine. It just doesn't seem to coincide with where I think it should stop or how far I should be able to look. The stop seems like a jarring clunk rather than a natural limit (it was the same in RoF) and feels odd when I'm trying to follow a contact that is transitioning from side to side, The natural flow of following the contact is stopped while my brain tries to compute why I can't move my head any more and think about what I have to do to get around it.
Nil Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Straight upward and straight downward are the current maximum.. if you want more you have to turn your head around a bit too!
