6./ZG26_Loke Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Endeed a difficult but also a lovely aircraft to fly and fight in. It abillity to turn sharp, have saved my butt a few times. However, there is one thing I have some problems with, and that is to follow an enemy plane in a left turn. I actually sometimes end up with that the aircraft lift it's nose strait up and begin to stall, instead of turning left. Any recomendation how to best maintain the left turn? Other dogfight tips in it is also welcomed. Never been much of a dogfighter, but these furballs are great fun, and would like to last just a bit longer than I do now, and maybe just get a kill once in awhile. 1
ZachariasX Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Use the blip switch to cut the engine before turns to minimize gyro. Also, initiate turns with rudder much rather than ailerons. Those planes are made with the idea in mind that you drive them around a turn with the rudder, using lateral control just to stabilize them in the turn. If you can enter a dogfight at high speed, you can follow anything in the Dr.I and you must press on for a hit right away. If you lost the initiative, then you can turn the Dr.I at slower speed than its main predator, the Camel. If a Camel jockey is silly enough to follow you in those slow turns, he is either inexperienced and you will get him or he doesn‘t think much of you. 1
6./ZG26_Loke Posted June 1, 2019 Author Posted June 1, 2019 He properly dosn't think much of me ?. Blip switch?
ZachariasX Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 There is a button called "blip switch" that cuts the ignition of the engine as long as you depress that button. you need to map it on your HOTAS.
BMA_West Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 All rotary engines have blip switch. Also handy while landing. Thou dosage is the key, blip to long and the engine drowns – so rather short repeated usage; 1
Legioneod Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Dr1 was my go to crate in RoF and turning left took me a long time to learn. Like ZachariasX said use blip switch and lots of rudder when initiating the turn.
6./ZG26_Loke Posted June 2, 2019 Author Posted June 2, 2019 Sure is something one need to practice. I assigned the Blip switch to my central brakes, as they do not any brakes in ww1.
