JG27*PapaFly Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 Dear developers, may I kindly suggest the removal of following effects? Wing rocking when the engine is about to die. I can't imagine that a plane weighing several tons would jerk it's wings like that when the engine is about to quit. IMO the effect shows its RoF heritage and, although perhaps appropriate for a WWI rotary engine plane, looks hard-coded and arcadish in a WWII environment. I'd remove it, at least for WWII planes. Being able to predict an opponent's demise because I see his wings jerk is an immersion killer for me. The exhaust flames. IMO these orange bitmaps or JPEGs, or whatever the format is, look completely cartoonish. I've seen many warbirds up close during airshows over the years, but have never seen flames that were visible in plain daylight during normal engine operation. Whenever I see them in-game I subconsciously expect WROOOAAARRR!!!, BOOUMMM!!! and BANG!!! cartoon text bubbles to appear on the screen. 1
Chief_Mouser Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 Never seen wing rocking but the exhaust flames give a good indication as to whether you have the mixture correctly set. VVS planes anyway, doesn't matter on the LW types in the main. Anyway, with the cockpit closed I can't see them so no biggie for me. How are you seeing them?

A Bf-109E does about 4 cm wing rocking at the tips when running up the engine. The Spitfire does less as the engine runs very smooth. If the engine is sputtering, it might be a bit more, but not that much, unless there's something really wrong. 13 hours ago, JG27_PapaFly said: The exhaust flames. Not from inside, not from standing close to it. You see the flames upon startup, but from then on the only glow you get are the hot glowing exhaust stacks (at high power settings). At high power settings, you get the black smoke from ~0.6 lambda fuel mix but no fire. If you see exhaust fires, you must have seriously bad fuel or something really wrong with the mixture. But as said, at night, you should see the exhaust gases.
69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 I've scored a few engine hits on 109s that made the whole plane shudder. Needless to say, the engine quit shortly thereafter. I think it's quite feasible that an engine that's been suddenly thrown "off balance" due to broken parts (such as piston rods, or a blown cylinder head) would have this effect, especially if it's the prop hub that's been knocked off center. That is a lot of propeller torque being suddenly thrown into a wobble after all. 1
JG27*PapaFly Posted June 7, 2019 Author Posted June 7, 2019 The engine repeatedly quits and comes back on this P-51 in mid flight. No wing rocking as far as I can tell. 1
