Constant radio chatter

Happened to me last night in a QMB.

It's not just the repetition, it's how he sounds like he's standing five feet from the mic and shouting into it.  He sounds very angry.  The germans must have had some seriously advanced mic design technology to avoid clipping and sudden acoustic spikes if that's how they talked to one another over radio.  Or the guy in the tower has serious political aspirations...

Seems to be a continual "feature" of WWII flight sims, yes. Janes WWII Fighters probably has to this date the most agitated-sounding German voices.

Oh, and:

Yep

Germans in WWII apparently never just had conversations over the radio, rather they screamed at each other.

Then of course there was Pacific Fighters, that featured the Japanese scream of burning death.

No other nationality, but when they got to Japan they somehow figured this was fitting.

I always imagined the Japanese fellow who recorded that, in his tiny apartment.  Screaming politely into his microphone so as not to be a nuisance to his neighbors.

The Germans by comparison often sound like they are covered in spiders.

Yep - and they certainly couldn't have had a fellow of British or Norwegian origin doing a Japanese scream either...it would have sounded fake that we'd have spotted it in a second.

That Japanese scream also caused me some relationship/flight sim problems (imagine that) years ago.

My girlfriend at the time kept trying to tell me that my WWII flight sim was glorifying violence, etc...she hated it.

I'd tell her she was crazy, off base, etc...then I'd be flying and over my Altec speakers would come this blood curdling death scream.

Yeah not helping my case.

That bitch would also hide my flight stick sometimes.

I ended up packing at 2 in morning one night and getting out of that one...problems bigger than a hidden flight stick, but that didn't help!

Go into

Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Moscow\data\Audio\radio

and remove the files GER and RUS and put them somewhere safe and hey presto!  No more radio nonsense.  Much better.  Remember that on each game update they will be reloaded too.

Thanks so much for this. I cannot tell you how this simple trick improved the experience for me. The chatter was beyond distracting.

I’ve grown pretty tired of the screamy “HIER IST TYPHOON!” Dude on German radio.

Take your meds, homie.

LOL, same here, to me the voice  sounds very cartoonish - sounds like Fred Flintstone yelling! (My recollection comes from Latinamerican Spanish dubs).

Prove me wrong!  XD

Brilliant! So much better than before. Many thanks.

Seems there's enough people who would rather not have the chatter, that it might be worth the devs making this a tick-box option ?

It's amazing what really good radio chatter can do for a game.  I hope that the ones in BoX get the attention they deserve.

Here's an option for folks to try if you don't mind flying near the Twilight Zone.   After deleting the sound folders mentioned above, just pop open the link below prior to launching the sim, and listen to KSEA tower chatter during your mission!  Or, go to broadcastify.com and browse for other airport or public service you want.

Flying a ground pounder mission while listening to the Portland OR Police Scanner radio might be an interesting experience, and brings new meaning to the phrase "support your local sheriff!".  Strafe 'em, Dano!   (the perps, that is!)

(can take a while to hear anything sometimes)
