short question: Does someone know how many mils the diameter of that circle is which I see in the M4A2 gun sight?

longer variant: I would be glad for any additional hints about aiming using that tank :)

I have seen the table to the left of the gunner giving the ranges for ammo type and elevation, but right now I have no clue how to estimate the range,

without knowing that diameter.

I suppose its all in feet, also?

edit: if sitting in a M4A2, and switching on those icons giving me the distance to targets, will that be meters, feet, or will that depend on that setting about units used based on the type of plane?

thx!

M4A2's gunsight has no inbuilt range finding capability and this is depicted in the Armored Force Manual FM17-12

Turns out, I've been doing it correct the whole time: Shoot and correct until you hit something.

The really interesting point is b) in that manual.  I had not known that table to the left of the gunner is actually a translation table for elevation from machine gun to cannon. That is very useful.

The M4A2 gunsight uses yards, which roughly corresponds to a meter. The only tip I can give you is to use the machine gun to estimate range (for ranges 1000 yards and below, at which AP, APHE, HE and the MG are essentially the same in ballistic drop), to keep in mind that M61 APHE and M48 HE are ballistically identical, and to practice both in solo missions and in multiplayer. The M4A2 is a very capable tank if you use its strengths to your advantage and play smart.
