If no STEAM, what aquisition model?

Several games you can use offline on  steam. You just  have to tell steam to go to offline mode. Some games do not allow to  be played without steam  beign logged in, but that is a GAME feature, not the steam forcing that.

 

Do not  put the blame on the wrong software.

 

THe only thing  steam requires is  from time to time to  connect  to validade your licenses etc... think its every month.
