=38=Tatarenko Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Basically echo this forum - we support you, we understand why MP is delayed, can't wait to fly the Yak. Why is multiplayer late? Because some of you wouldn't be able to connect and there would be an outcry so we need to sort that out first. What can we expect? There will (also) be hard-core servers with no externals or markers. And no nav assistance. Will there be driveable vehicles? No. (Had to be answered yet again after a Dev said he wondered how tankies coped with navigation in the snow). As you can see, the devs stayed out of it this week, largely because they stayed at work sorting out the multiplayer. Generally people were referred back to the Dev 57 statement. And finally after 470 posts (12 pages) the Dev 57 discussion was locked, which I've never seen, probably to let everyone get on with fixing stuff rather than talking about it. Sorry for the lack of content but I can only translate what was there and it was extremely sparse. 10
Endy Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) It's nice to hear info from the Russian side, even if there isn't much different, thanks again Tatarenko. Edited March 17, 2014 by Endy
Finkeren Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Thanks for the update Tatarenko. I don't wanna stir a hornets nest with this question, but just out of curiosity I'm wondering: How was the Russian communitys reaction to the delay in MP access? I personally think people on the English forum were quite understanding and supportive towards the devs and well behaved in their responses. With a discussion 12 pages long I wonder if things might have gotten a tad more heated on the Russian forum.
Finkeren Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Finkeren your question was answered in the 1st line of the OP. Somehow I missed that. Sorry. 1
Tab Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Thanks for the update Tatarenko. With a discussion 12 pages long I wonder if things might have gotten a tad more heated on the Russian forum. my impression: absolute majority of players were showing understanding and were saying that better we get MP with the yak a week or two later than MP now without yak and buggy. I recall really only 1 or 2 folks whining around about "broken promises".
Finkeren Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 It's great to hear, that an online community, which I know from experience can turn very quickly, have strong confidence in the devs. When I first saw the DD-57 I thought: "All right here we go, now comes the sh**storm." But no, I was pleasantly surprised
dburne Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Tatarenko, Your translated updates for us here are always very much appreciated! Thank you for taking your time to provide these!!
SYN_Mike77 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 There is a ton of research in the org comm world on the effects of transparency both internally (to a companies employees) and externally (to a companies customers) and it shows over and over that when a company is slow in explaining problems or tries to hide problems a grapevine of information immediately springs up and the fruit of that grapevines is usually much worse than the reality. (Unless you are dealing with an American auto manufacturer, then all bets are off, cf Ford Pinto!) Otoh: When a company is prompt and open with what went wrong people are very understanding and forgiving. To be honest, I was reading this stuff 25 years ago (pre internet) but my guess is that the internet would have a multiplier effect on the above and not a mitigator effect. Anyway, I think this week proves the old findings once again.
Jason_Williams Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 We've been open and honest about our progress since day one so I am not surprised the community took this in stride. So, everybody can see during development sometimes things don't go to plan even for an experienced crew like ours. We did some more testing with the closed beta team this weekend with good results. Final call as usual is with Loft for this week. Jason
AbortedMan Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Really happy to see the community not set the forums ablaze this weekend. I thought it was going to be a madhouse after the bad news broke, but as with most things, the anger and frustration was assuaged by a wonderful dose of transparency...which is great! Though, I almost did want to hear an answer like this from the devs, you know, just for the lolz: 1

Anyway, I think this week proves the old findings once again. Indeed! Great post. There are many examples both recently and over the decades that show this same effect. In this case, they let us know what was up, why it was up, and what they were still working on and it helps a lot in the overall PR effort. The weekly updates is fantastic and I like how this is being treated in much the same way that Star Citizen is working where the development is fairly open and the pre-order crowd especially were treated as backers of the project. I am nothing if not happy with how things have progressed. I'm quite happy to be patient and wait.
