I have a desktop refresh rate of 60hz and no matter what graphics settings i use, including turning vsync on in the games graphics settings, it runs at 75 frames per second.

Since trackir runs at 60 or 120, this induces some input lag.

I have tried every vsync setting in nvidia control panel, adaptive, fast, and on, and the game runs at either 75fps or, in the case of fast vsync, tops out at 150.

I have tried editing the start up cfg to make sure vsync is in fact turned on, and that doesnt work either.

Using the framerate limiter included in the games graphics settings, results in 75 fps even with the framerate limiter set to 60.

Anyway to get il2 to run at 60hz and 60 fps?

I have also tried different Nvidia driver versions and im running the latest standard driver, not the one with the refresh rate bug.

Thanks for your replies.

there is an option to set the maximum fps to 60

Yeah and if you read my original post i tried that, still 75 fps.

The framerate limiter in game changes graphics settings on the fly to maintain the target framerate, changing graphics settings on the fly is exactly what induces stuttering.

Even with the framerate limiter set to 60 if your set up can render faster than that it will.

Thanks ill take a look at that :)

sounds like you have a 75Hz monitor therefor you dont want 60fps you want 75 or 150 with fast. then it will be in sync :D

make sure you only rendering 1 frame ahead.

Forcing 60hz on 75hz monitor can be done just in invidia control panel set the monitor max refresh rate to 60hz not 75hz

The monitor will do 60 or 75. Thanks for the frames ahead tip, i usually do have it set to 1. Desktop runs a 60 when im playing flight sims.

I wouldn't worry too much about what the Frame Rate counter says.  I think if you are in Full Screen mode, and you have V-Sync or Adaptive Sync on, you will see the FPS counter register 60.  If not in Full Screen, it will display something higher, but I still believe it is working.  Now, I don't use V-Sync anymore because I have a 120 hz G-Sync Monitor, running in Windowed Full mode.  My FPS counter (when FPS is unrestricted in config) will routinely display numbers as high as 200 FPS...but I think all that means is that 200 frames are being computed, but I'm certain that only 120 frames are being sent to the Display, because I *know* the GSync is working.  In other words, I think that unless you are getting visible tearing, don't worry about it.

Nope, the game runs at 75 hz according to two different third party frame rate counters i have used and who register other games at 60 hz / fps. The framerate counter included in IL2 is on average right in line with the third party utilities(sometimes briefly off by one). Gsync is a completely different display technology vs fixed refresh. Im beginning to remember the reason i quit playing the first time. There is no way to get il2 to respect the refresh rate of the desktop with vsync on, unless you run it in windowed mode.

From https://www.nvidia.in/object/g-sync-faq-in.html

Several years in the making, G-SYNC technology synchronizes the display's refresh to the GPU’s render rate, so images display the moment they’re rendered. The result: Scenes appear instantly. Objects are sharper. Game play is smoother.

Since their earliest days, displays have had fixed refresh rates – typically 60 times a second (Hertz). But due to the dynamic nature of PC games, GPUs render frames at varying rates. As the GPU seeks to synchronize with the display, persistent tearing occurs. Turning on V-SYNC (or Vertical-SYNC) can eliminate tearing but causes increased latency and stutter.

G-SYNC eliminates this tradeoff, perfectly syncing the display to the GPU, regardless of frame rate, leading to uncompromised PC gaming experiences.

Nvidiainspector, you can set any frame rate for any game you like

I tried that and thank you again for the suggestion, but forcing the framerate with inspector just induced a micro stutter. My guess is the game stutters  as the extra frames are thrown away.

Here's my experience with traditional vsync (no free or g-sync). I don't know, maybe other people are experiencing the same.

Free flight:
-> 6
0 fps locked, feels perfectly smooth.

Quick mission (fully populated with fighters, heavy bombers, ground units):
-> still 60 fps locked but feels like 60 micro stutters per second.

I might seem to be a little perfectionist here but I can clearly see the difference in smoothness between the two vsynced 60 fps.

I can't explain why this happens. Maybe frame time inconsistency ?

Experiencing stuttering on a powerful rig is frustrating because you know the capability is there but something just isn't right. I built a new pc and had a bit of stutter, especially when panning using TrackIR. I tried every combination of settings I could think of, and even resorted to lowering all graphics, but still the stutter was there. After some more testing, I found the right combination to completely eliminate the stutter with full max graphic settings.

-In game vsync on

-nvidia control panel vsync "adaptive"

i thought these two settings would conflict but instead they have totally fixed all stutter and it feels like a whole new game!
