migmadmarine Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I know it would be illegal for the devs to include the swastika in the release of the game, in some countries, but could they legally release an optional skin pack with swastikas for those of us who would prefer to have them?
DD_bongodriver Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I don't think the devs should waste any valuable time making a skin pack dedicated to having swastikas, I'm not entirely sure why these things are so important to people, it has been noted that the skins are going to be customiseable anyway, so anyone who really can't survive without them can create them or wait for the modder base to.
SharpeXB Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 IL-2: Wings of Prey had a good solution for this issue. It had a checkbox in the option menu for "historical decals". Then the user could just decide for themselves. Unless somehow laws have changed, there's ample precedent for games using this symbol.

I'm all for historical accuracy but some of the countries outside of the USA - they do exist and are populated with intelligent human life, contrary to fox news opinion manure - have laws banning the display of the swastika and other symbols of that particular extremism - and they have to be respected...or should be. are you going to want to admire your BF109 in external camera flyby whatnot and be so peeved by the lack of a proper swastika on the tailfin that you choke on your cheeseburger? refuse to support 1c and 777? whine on the forums about it noon and night like it was a cockpit bar muzzleflash lawnmower sound weakass .50cal deltawood flaps on a slider monobrow conspiracy? mmmcheeseburger....

Checkbox for "historical markings" option is OK for me. Hi I do not think that the devs will risk anything at this and will not include those symbols in the game. In some countrys it can have hughe consequences. A few days ago I heard from a german community member that they had to call back all discs of the first Version of il2 1946 because they forgot to remove a swastika on one (ONLY ONE!!!) Skin. So this can end up in a big deal, you don?
