So many of you will laugh at this and call me NOOB

I have been playing flight sims for years.  I can recall back to the original Battle of Britain, Aces over the Pacific and Aces Over Europe and then nearly everything else that has come up at least once. But I have never been very hard core.

I loved IL-2 when it came out and I doubt that I could counts the number of hours that I have spent mucking around on it and its successors. I very seldom bothered to finsh missions by landing barring on auto or crashing or semi controlled crashing.  I don't know why. I just didn't get the appeal.

Buying BOS after playing Rise of Flight and IL-2 was a no brainer. I was shocked when I started playing because there was such a feeling of depth to the flying experience and for the first time in a sim I really had the feeling of immersion that I have heard bandied about over the years. It made me want to get into it a bit more.

For the first time I changed my difficulty settings and inched closer to reality.  I was surprised that I was doing OK.  I have been anxiously waiting for each weekend so that I could get my fill of flying.  I think I have done more hours in a 109 than many German pilots but with one major failing. The old adage is that a good landing is one that you can walk away from.  I call BS to that. I have been able to land IL-2s and Stukas but for some reason I could not get the hang of landing the 109. I havent tried the russian aircraft yet.

I decided that I would buy a TrackIR set up purely based on wanting to improve my experience in this game.  I am so glad I did.  it has really improved my ability to fly generally and now I don't feel so behind the eightball in a dog fight.

Anyway tonight, Gentlemen (and ladies), I have pulled of three successive 109 landings.  No breaking. I can't even begin to explain how happy I am. Cannot wait for this game to be released in full.  I can't wait to fly the 190.

Thanks for reading and I hope that you are enjoying this as much as I am.

Thumbs up.

Oh, and you're not the only one....

Crashing the perfectly flying plane is not an art you alone possess.....

Excellent post Blackcloud. I believe this is what it's about--- enjoying and learning. Appears you even have that extra special ingredient--patience !!! This post should also make the BOS team very happy as well .

Cheers  --sf--

I still get a thrill whenever I land successfully, and even more so if my plane is damaged.

One of my biggest thrills, though, was when a friend who had never seen a flight sim before was visiting and watched me fly a Spitfire on ATAG in CloD. I got damaged pretty heavily by a 109, and I struggled to bring my bird back across the channel with visible holes in my wings and barely operating ailerons. He cheered out loud when I belly-landed safely in a field just after crossing the cliffs.

Modern flight sims can be so immersive!

really? i thought this game was really easy to get into.

Congrats on nailing the landings and if you think that the TrackIR gives you immersion wait until the consumer version of the Oculus Rift hits the market later this year; that and BoS are going to be flight sim heaven...^^

Congratulations! I hope we see you in the Sky when the MP comes out!

I don't usually bother with landing (although I was changing that up a bit before I lost interest with flight sims), but when I do, it's pretty satisfying. Not as satisfying as sending down your opponent in flames, but still very satisfying.

Congrats :salute:

No laughing... I've been practising takeoff and landings quite a bit to try and fine tune the controls. Everything is still too sensitive/not sensitive enough but I'm getting better at landings. Its not easy in this and its a lot less forgiving than the previous outing. I've busted up Yaks, 109s, LaGGs, Stukas and IL-2s quite successfully. All in the name of testing... *ahem* :)

flight simming for years without track ir??? really?

Posted

What's so strange about that?

I think anyone who started with F117 for example did this. There simply was no TIR.

Your reaction makes me believe you were born with a TIR already attached to the face.

Sadly so my friend sadly so.  I never thought it would make that much difference and now I can't believe that I never had one.  That said I don't think a game has really made me feel it was worth spending then extra money till this one.

You will never fly without it again. I suggest you try Requiems Profile.

Kind of like the game physics, best to date. but I am not at all satisfied with many of the flight models. Funny enough I find the LAGG to be the most complete and satisfying plane to fly.

I am guessing the lack of trim is one of the reasons. Crashlanding get a very realistic and violent feature. But when I do a perfect crash-landing it is still violent and tears off the wings.

This game can really become a great one, that is for sure

Congratulations Blackcloud, I understand the feeling.

I don't know whether you've tried the cross-wind landing version?

I had pretty much the same feelings about that. Once I could land without breaking the undercarriage or doing a ground-loop, I felt so satisfied. I does seem to have got easier as the FM changes though.

I will have to give that a go now.  I am looking for new challenges so that I keep improving.  Largely because I want to get to the point where i will be able to shoot a few of you down in MP.  Sorry guys.... But I guess that is what it is all about.

That special feeling each time you land and come to a full stop never gets old.  Even after 10 years!

Just wait until the day you pull your first carrier landing.   :good:

I used to fly mainly aerobatics in real life, and as enjoyable as that always was, a feather touch landing (when I fluked it) always gave me more pleasure.

Nice post Blackcloud. Im the impatient sort too. Ive always done landings when possible, but rely far too much on time acceleration and the restart mission feature.

Have committed to master CEM with this release and hopefully level bombing.

You've convinced me to finally get TIR
