TWC_Ace Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 Saw a trailer today and wanted to post here ? Looks promising.
Chief_Mouser Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 First time I've even heard of Hulu. Won't be able to see this then until someone else picks it up.
HagarTheHorrible Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Joy of joys, Channel 4 (UK) is doing it, doesn’t say when, but can’t wait. 2
Poochnboo Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Been waiting for this since it was announced last year. It's one of my favorite books. I have a beautiful copy that is signed by Joseph Heller. 1 1

Lol! And I'm sure that there were plenty of meatheads that you met who made you say, "Hey...I remember him from the book!" 1
Poochnboo Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Just watched it. Thought it was pretty good. I'm enjoying the depiction of life on a 12th Air Force bomber base. "That's some catch that catch-22!"
Feathered_IV Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Watching it now. Great stuff. I wish I could taxi a Ju-52 that well.
1CGS LukeFF Posted May 21, 2019 1CGS Posted May 21, 2019 Enjoyed the series overall, but it was quite obvious they used the C-47 interior for the Ju 52 flight scenes. That was a bit of a letdown.
Feathered_IV Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Many of the B-25s have a barrel for a nose gun but nothing else behind it. That make me chuckle.

Put back in that time, I think. On 5/21/2019 at 12:50 PM, LukeFF said: they used the C-47 interior for the Ju 52 flight scenes Yes, I noticed that, too, and wondered why. They seem to have had at least one flyable Ju-52.
Finkeren Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 My Danish provider has only released the first episode, but so far I'm pretty optimistic. It strikes a somewhat more realistic tone than the 1970s movie (which I love in all its surreal campy craziness) and seems to be going for a more linear story, which is probably a necessity with a TV-series. It'll be interesting to see, how it handles the satire, once things really start to go off the rails. I do wish they would've found an actual Arabian-American actor to play Yossarian. Abbott just looks way too Italian to really stick out the way Yosarrian should.
NiiranenVR Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Hvad kanal så du den episode på ? ( I ask : what canal ? )
Tyberan Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 3 episodes in an it's a good adaptation of the book. 1

Quote https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yossarian Catch-22 introduces Yossarian as an American soldier in World War II with Assyrian heritage, although Closing Time clarifies this to be a joke and that his heritage and surname are in fact Armenian there, my pedantic ego is satisfied now ? 1
Finkeren Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Haven't read Closing Time, so I considdr myself excused. I guess Abbott could pass for Armenian...
PatCartier Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 A lot of iranian have a name ended with -ian too. But Yossarian is armenian, no doubt.
HagarTheHorrible Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Finally managed to watch episode one last night on Channel 4 UK. Apart from the fact that Hugh Laurie was in it it did make me wonder if Catch 22 had some influence on the script of Blackadder goes Forth, it seems to share many of the same tropes.

An Armenian and a Georgian argue who was the first man on earth. The Armenian says: "The first man was Adam." Says the Georgian "Maybe so, but his father was Chimpanze." 1
BOO Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Enjoying so far although im enjoying less that its on Channel 4s catch up "service" in the UK so seemingly has to have an add break every 3rd line of dialogue and 30s of loading time for every innaine advert shown. ~Suffice to say that if i see a Lexus Hybrid today i WILL key it!
Eisenfaustus Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 While the series is well done and I found it very enjoyable to watch, I often had to think about German, Japanese and Russian airmen and all kind of infantry grunts who knew they were in that atrocious war until the end. In the Luftwaffe those who were lucky enough to live so long sometimes had more than 1000 sorties. And I can only guess same goes for VVS personal. And Yossarian begins to think about deserting when his mission count is raised from 25 to 30...
