I think that 109 wanted the kill real bad. From the look of it the train AA actually set the Pe-2 on fire. Maybe he figured if he got some hits in he would get the credit? Doesnt explain his follow-on buddies strafing the Pe-2 as well. It seems that when I'm flying a bomber, guys keep hammering at me all the way to the ground. A guy last night shot me down in an A20 (blew my canopy off, flamed my engine and tore my tail up), then attempted to strafe me at least 20 seconds after I put down. He already got the kill, I guess he wanted revenge for the warehouses full of toilet paper or whatever I blew up at the target. /I always aim for the warehouses of toilet paper, it has a surprisingly large impact on Luftwaffe morale when they have to switch to 1-ply. //VVS standard issue is birch bark to promote resilience 1

Either way a good illustration of the dangers of attacking a Pe-2, even when it's already dead meat ? When Petlyakov designed the Pe-2, he engineered all his fury, malice, and bitterness right into the airframe (This is typically known as Gulag Inspiration). The gunners are recruited from the lost souls of chute-killed pilots and the bullets are 12.7mm hellfire-infused armor-piercing incendiaries enchanted to seek the hearts of Luftwaffe fighter pilots. Why anyone attacks them at all is a mystery. 2
