Now i'm fairly new to flight sims and am bought the stock stand 3D-Pro to see what all the fuss was about.

Apparently the fuss is it's a good genre I've been ignoring for some 20 odd years.

That being said was thinking it's time to upgrade now I've the basics down. Was looking at a X-52 Pro then noticed the X-55 is about to pop out, will the 55 be worth it?

As a follow on, pedals? Worth it in terms of ease of use vs twist stick? $200 odd bucks for a 5% ease of use/advantage wouldn't be worth it imo, was seeking the advise of the more seasoned. Budget is not really an issue, but sodded if i'll be forking out for Warthog type cost for a stick!

German fighters are my sort of thing.

Cheers

I'd say stick and rudder pedals vs twist are to a plane as a manual vs auto gearbox are to a car.

I do however, strongly recommend you look into a headtracking solution.

That's the one piece of hardware that I think will make the biggest difference to your enjoyment of the genre.

Good advice. TIR is pretty much essential kit for combat flight sims.

Pedals are nice to have, but not totally necessary for a WW2 flightsim, as long as the stick has a twist axis.

I would personally rate TrackIR and throttle(-quadrant) higher than pedals.

Can't say if the X-55 is worth it, but outside the Warthogs price range, there is no real alternative. It definately looks more refined than the X-52, not sure if it's worth the extra money though.

I use the Saitek Combat Pedals and love them, compliment my Warthog setup nicely.

Also agree on the Track IR, I would not fly without it!

The X55 is much better than the X52.

The Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals are good, but using the twist rudder of the X55 will do fine, especially if you need the extra cash for the very immersive Track IR hardware.   That said the Oculus Rift head mount hardware due out in the next year or so should make Track IR irrelevant.  The cheaper OR should negate the need for a TrackIR and expensive monitor combination.  Although the OR will probably require a high end computer system for the best experience.

Track-ir and a twist stick if you are short of money for the added saitek rudders. I have the three, but ain't got room for the pedals, due to my tables low shelf

Cheers guys, should have mentioned that i have a Track IR. Looks like i might wait and grab a X-55 when it comes out then. Pedals don't seem to be all the essential is appears, might sait and see how much i suck before grabbing those rather than getting both at the same time.

Cheers all

I was in the same vote. I was pretty new to flight sims. I've tried them but never had a stick so I never got into them. I bought the x52 pro to give a go with a stick and well I'm hooked.

I ended up modding my x52 pro to make feel more precise and I pick up TrackIR and Satiek Combat pedals off someone for a good price. I'd highly recommend TrackIR over pedals but I think flying with pedals is way better that flying with a twist stick. Now about the x52 vs x55. Its hard to say what one to go with since the x55 is new and has no reviews but If you do get the x52 I'd do the magnet mod. Its an easy mod so its not a huge deal.

Rudder pedals are a good investment in the genre.. but TIR will take it to another level. I suggest that you get TIR first.. A TIR 4 is still a noce piece of kit .. but don't take the pedals off your radar..  The Saitek Pro Flight pedals are very good.. IMO better than the CH pedals. As for the stick .. I know little about the X-55 outside of what I have read and what people have said.. but if I were in the market for a stick from scratch I would probably be looking at the X55 over a X-52 Pro because of the split throttle.. but the X-52 Pro is a good stick. As long as you are not ham fisted with it it will last you quite a while.

As you already have TiR, look into picking up some pedals as well. Brings the immersion level right up. Real aircraft don't have twist sticks...

Indeed!

It is hard to be a good HOTAS, Track IR, and rudder pedals. Once you get used to using all three, they really become almost second nature - very natural and you almost don't have to really think about what your doing with the controls.
