Increase visibility distance?

I just found this in one of the older dev diaries:

6) Will the visibility of horizon increased in the BoS?

At the moment the visual range is 40 kilometers. I don't see why you need a larger range. Visibility is much lower in real life quite often. Fly ROF and you will notice you can see quite far into the distance. We have had no complaints about our horizon draw distance in ROF.

Seriously? I don't even think it is 40km. At 3000m, I can hardly see the ground anymore (so it does rather feel like 4km) while flying level, this is less than in the old Il-2 without Perfect setting. IIRC Perfect was indeed something like 40km visible range and we all know the Il-2's Perfect visibility range is by far higher than BoS's. By the way I always thought it was too short in RoF already, but that doesn't matter as much as the battles there are usually below 2000m, but here I expect aerial battles up to 7000m at least, even if most action will most probably be at 0 - 4000m.

Please consider increasing the rendering distance of the terrain :)

What are you talking about? The terrain draw distance is better than Il-2 1946 with perfect settings, there's no fishbowl effect at 6KM like there was with Il2 even at perfect settings.

Here's RoF, 6KM, terrain is perfectly visible for a long distance. They also increased the plane visibility in BoS significantly out to about 6KM. The terrain draw distance is quite clearly significantly further than 6KM.

I also doubt there will be a lot of battles above 3KM, the Russian aircraft modelled are much better at lower altitudes. But that last point is neither here nor there when discussing the terrain drawing distance which is clearly quite a bit further than 4 or 6KM.

Must have been increased in RoF I see. I remember flying there (more than a year ago, though) and not seeing sh*t anymore at 3k.

I've made some screenshots at 3k and 6k and even 9k in Il-2. All at the default visibility angle and 60° in Il-2. (think default is 55° there, but I prefer 30/60/90° settings)

It's clearly visible that the visible distance for the ground is the worst in BoS. But! I think there are 2 main factors that make it seem less, and even a third here now.

1. the snowy surface. All white, mostly

2. the distant haze effect to make the horizon less abrupt than in Il-2

3. in this special case the relatively heavy clouding

Nevertheless, in Il-2 you can see farther away. I'm somewhere above Luhove/Uvarove there and can see as far as Sudak, which is ~80km. I think this visibility range in BoS and RoF with the much better haze effect would be tremendous. Therefore I keep suggesting it. It can't be wrong in any case. Only maybe for some graphics cards

in the latest version, I believe the draw distance (I would say anisotropic filtering) was decreased, at least there seems to be a really ugly transition between the two LODs. In the previous version, I could see the airfields crisp clear, now they are a blurry mess and not even straight lines anymore. Using Ultra settings, no Vsynch, no FPS limiter, AA set to 2x, Gamma 1.0
