Nil Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 .. or did that arrive first in the A4? really hard to find A3 cockpit pictures clear enough to tell for me.
Nil Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 Damn! found the answer after a few days looking around, just after I posted this! Pic from here http://www.toredgarolsen.net/Focke%20Wulf%20FW.htm 1
Emgy Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) That link you found is very interesting - a guy found a crashed Fw 190 in Norway in 1984, it got sent to a restoration museum in Texas and later Florida. Then in 2009, the original finder reclaims the plane to Norway, where a historical aviation society finally restored it. Now on display here: http://luftfartsmuseum.no/fly/focke-wulf-190-a-3-2/ From the same team, MG131 from an A8 salvaged from the sea (including ammo belts): http://black3iscominghome.blogspot.no/ Edited March 11, 2014 by Calvamos 1
Finkeren Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 It's amazing to think, that they actually restored something that looked like that picture, when it came out of the water.
Emgy Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Ah, from what I can see, only the A3 (which crashed on land) was restored. The A8 (salvaged from the sea) was only used for spares, when possible. (I don't think they got much out of it.)
MalleusTempus Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 It's amazing to think, that they actually restored something that looked like that picture, when it came out of the water. I find it amazing that there appears to be what is possibly live ordnance in that feeder belt and that guy has a hammer and chisel!
Eldur Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Here are some A3 inside photos: http://www.deutscheluftwaffe.de/Flugzeuge/Jeager/Fw190A3/cockpit/Fw190A3Cockpit.htm So it definately still had the old bank/turn indicator instead of an artificial horizon. 1
Georgio Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I find it amazing that the guns actually look that good after being underwater for at least 70 years.... I find it amazing that there appears to be what is possibly live ordnance in that feeder belt and that guy has a hammer and chisel!
Emgy Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 He has an air force beret, so probably a qualified armourer who knows where to put the chisel :-)
