Steam overlay unintentionally appearing

For whatever reason, I have had the long standing issue of the steam overlay appearing sometimes when I press shift. The toggle for the steam overlay is shift+tab so I do not understand why this  happens sometimes and why it only happens in iL-2. This problem is very random, sometimes it happens once every hour or it could happen multiple times within minutes. I have tried pressing keys in the order I was pressing them before the overlay appeared and it never brings the overlay up. So I am at a loss as to why this occurs. Does anyone know why this happens when just pressing shift and how to fix it?

I can say it seems to happen most after just using my joystick. I have the thrustmaster 16000m and the joystick movement/axis is not toggled for any action other than default maneuvering. Given how the shift key is required for several basic functions in the game. This issue becomes quite annoying or happens right in the middle of combat.

Just wondering, have you tried this yet? 

 

Open Steam, go to its game Library, right click on IL-2 BoS and scroll down on Properties. Uncheck “Enable Steam Community In-game”

Thanks for the reply, I however only see "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game" in that location. For which I do want to continue using the overlay.

Change the combo keys in STEAM (for show overlay) for key not used in Bo'x - E.g LAlt+K

Thanks for the suggestion. However the problem will just continue with whatever new key combo I select. (I tried changing it before) So it could reduce the issue I suppose. But I have been using the shift+tab combo for thirteen years and it's sort of ingrained in my memory by this point.

This STEAM "shift"  issue is not uncommon and happens with various games across the years, but the usual solution suggested is change keys assignment without investigate what cause of the problem.

Hmm interesting, for me this has only occurred in iL-2.
