shredo Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 When i got awarded with the iron cross 2nd class it really felt like an achievment.I made 2 kills in that flight, was heavily damaged so that the engine died off when the landing field came into reach. I fought with controls, trying to keep the plane in the air to make it to the landing strip.Black smoke surounded me as i finally dished the plane on the landing strip on my belly. Iron cross 2nd class well deserved, it really felt like an achievement after that experience. Today i flew a mission, meet bombers over the front line and escort them back.No enemy contact the whole flight, no incidents other then heavy clouds. I lost my squad and the bombers because of the clouds but managed to rejoin shortly before we departed from them.Landed 5 mins later on home base without any incidents. AWARDED WITH IRON CROSS 1ST CLASS oO? for what????!!!!! there is really no reason that i got awarded with it, this flight was more then standard routine.... Is there a system that decides when you get awarded with promotions and medals or is it kinda randomized? campaign date : 08.03.1942 (european date system) campaign started at: 01.03.1942 Sorties flown : 7 Air Victories : 10 Plane : BF109-F4 Rank : OFw
Cybermat47 Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 You probably got the Iron Cross First Class for what happened in the mission before last. It takes a day for you to be be awarded a medal.
PatrickAWlson Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 PWCG, by design, delays awards. It started on accident but afterwards it seemed better that way. After all, they didn't have a guy with a medal in his hand waiting for you to land. So that's the way it has stayed. Medals and promotions are awarded one time advance after you meet the criteria (time advance = mission flown. leave taken, or transfer). German medals awarded for a fighter pilot are based on total air to air victories, i.e. sustained success. Allied medals are based on total victories + victories in a mission, indicating something heroic as well as sustained success. The more sustained success the less heroic you have to be.
