Go to you AMD RX460 adjustment screen and set everything to low, out or application controlled.

Do the same in your BoX ingame settings.

Set ingame resolution=screen resolution

Experiment with windowed mode on/off.

I do hope this will help, if not then this could be a good base to go further in your investigations, because your  RX460 is a bit limited.

edit I see you are running mods, I know from RoF some could cause problems after an RoF game update, like AI-mods, remove these. Run in mods off mode.

Check for dust in your system, I use a cheap spraycan of compressed air.

Tried your suggestions, no change.

I know that it would seem that an RX460 is a less than ideal card for the game but it was running with very high settings before the update

Here's what it used to looked like

Is this happening in other games? Is your GPU overheating? Did you try to uninstall GPU drivers, then install again?

You can try Furmark to see your GPU temps. Free download.

No problems with any other games.  IL-2 1946 runs smooth, everything set at full on.  Same with Forza/Dirt and WRC.  All set on high grpahics settings.  GPU temps are fine ~ 50C during heavy action, explosions, lots of planes etc.

Drivers are the latest for the card.

Great Battles is the only game that exhibits any problems and only after the update to 3.012.

Did you update the videocard drivers.

Now it could be that there is a AMD driver version that can not cope to the BoX game. If you did not chance the Vcard drivers than this can never be the cause.

I'll try and be patient.

As you can see in my previous post... Drivers are the latest for the card

In my second post, with attached screenshot, you can see what the game looked like, using the AMD RX460 card.

The game ran fine with the very same system I'm using now BEFORE the update!

I have already tried dumbing down ALL graphics settings in game and on the GPU to NO avail.

I am virtually certain it's not my system.  Except for Great Battles I have no issues with any other game or visual app.

OK I try to explain this different, because it appears to me you get irritated.

Newest Vcard drivers does not always count for better, in the flysim world, think mine is one year old and runs great, so if running great there is no need to update. It is a great failure most flysimmers do make, thinking new Vcard drivers are always better.

So It can even be the latest Vcard driver that are causing this, but if you did run BoX well, with the same drives then, it could never be the Vcard drivers. Try to find out what you did change.

If you did upgrade the game and with still the mods installed, then this could be the cause. I use the JSGME tool and before updating BoX I swap all the mods back. If you did not swap the mods back, then some files could be corrupted. In this case consider an BoX reinstall.

If using injectors like SweetFX or RadeonPro disable these.

If there was a bug pure in BoX then more AMD users would claim that.

Best I can advise is to turn off the fps limit function and any vsync style of fps throttling. Try going full screen and try going windowed to see how they both work. Even try different resolutions or with anti-aliasing on or off. If none of that works then try reinstalling the game. If that does not work try reinstalling through the steam install. Perhaps the download from the website is corrupted. (save a copy of your controls via copy of the input folder)

Most of us go through huge amounts of headache to get iL-2 running unfortunately. It took me nearly eight months for example and others have always had issues regardless.

If it helps, here are my settings and what they look like.

Sorry.  It's just that I had already posted about those things and felt it was ignored.  I am at the core just really frustrated about the situation.

At this time Radeon considers the RX460 a 'Legacy' card and there are no more driver updates.  I have the last and latest drivers for the card and it ran BoX just fine prior to the update.

So It can even be the latest Vcard driver that are causing this, but if you did run BoX well, with the same drives then, it could never be the Vcard drivers. Try to find out what you did change.

I changed nothing.  All I did was install the update.

That makes sense but there were no instructions to turn off mods (at least that I saw) before applying the update.  I had applied previous updates with the mods enabled and not had problems.

If using injectors like SweetFX or RadeonPro disable these.
I do not use anything like that.  I have always found the game to look excellent without doing any tweaking beyond what the game offers in the setup menu's.

I'll try your settings suggestions later this evening and see if it helps.
As you can see by my designation below my name I have had this game since very early on.  I'm not sure I would know how to reinstall it.  I may need to talk with the Support Team about that.  I wish to avoid Steam at all costs if possible.  I am just not fond of their way of doing things.

* Is there any way to uninstall the update and try again?

* Any chance the upgrade was somehow corrupted or degraded during the download?

* If so, is there a way to re-download it and apply it over the current upgrade?

I would like to thank everyone for trying to help and apologize for my snitty attitude.  It's such a beautiful game to fly and I am feeling  r e a l l y  frustrated at the moment.

Oh yes completely understandable. I hope you can contact support though they seem to missing this month as some other threads have indicated.

My honest bet is, a file corrupted during the patch install or there is an corrupt file from the website's file you downloaded. The only way to truly know or to attempt a fix is to reinstall at this point. Like I said before though, backup your files before doing such. I bet you would not enjoy losing your controls and settings.

Well I'll be damned!

I decided to give it one last try.  Instead of just doing the things that were suggested graphically I dumbed the graphics to their lowest possible point and completly unloaded the JSGME, no mods.

GOD!  The game looked awful.  Washed out, horizon fogged out at about 5km, a film of fog everywhere, sun reflections totally annoying.  If someone had showed me this as the game I would never have gotten it.

BUT....

No tears, no stuttering, no flashing.  Just butt ugly.

SO...

Slowly I brought the game up in graphic increments and with each improvement I would restart and it continued to run smoothly.  I finally got the game back to the graphic level it was before the upgrade.

I wonder why that was?

Next thing will be to re-enable the mods, smaller/few icons, longer smoke trails, map emitters etc.  It looks like I'll get it back to where it was.

H U G E Thank You to all who suffered through my snit and kept on helping me.  I owe you my gaming sanity!  :salute:

Medals all around. ?️??

ADDENDUM:  All my favorite mods re-enabled and all is well again.

iL-2 being iL-2 I guess was the issue. ??‍♀️

I'm glad it's working again though! Dealing with such game breaking bugs/problems can be super annoying and time consuming to say the least.

Main reason why I wrote that down was, that lower graphics cards are more prone to overrated graphically adjustments, one small change like selecting high Supersampling could have a destructive impact on your screen. By shifting back to lowest/off/application-controlled you always have an solid base for going further.  The same about mods or injectors btw.

But glad you are now on the right track.

And btw I was not irritated, because when that happen I just just quit the whole topic and not going back, it is only internet.

The finest thin of this and the old IL2 1946 communinty is you can get annoyed and frustrated, feel misunderstood and make some thoughtless comments nut memebers here (and on the other site) usually come back with patience and steer one back to the path to solution! I´ve been on both theese forums as long as I can remember and have always been helped no matter how dumb or pissed I´ve been! (Those 2 communities are the ones I´m on regularily)

To all the great guys and gals here I´d like to express my gratitude for your patience, knowledge and helpfulness!
