Velxra Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 (edited) If a fixed gun is shot with a bullet it can indeed become damaged and unusable. Though it seems to be a rare occurrence or we will have bailed out of the plane by that point. However there seems to be no modeling of possible explosion or malfunction from excessive overheating of the guns. If a weapon does overheat it will solely have a wider spread of a firing cone in game and that is it. In real life excessive heating would either deform the barrel or take the weapon out of headspace causing a jam or self detintation to name a few of the possibilities. Sublime Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 (edited) I dont know what happens when they overheat as the one time it happened was today - I was spraying away and my plane got hit severely - like broke in half. Right then they began overheating so I kept shooting to see but the plane crashed really quickly. Field-Ops Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 Gun overheat happens on the ground a lot faster than in the air. Makes sense since airflow cools the guns while flying but still air on the ground doenst help.
Ghost666 Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 Over heated the guns on a P-47 sitting on the runway. Had unlimited ammo, they heated up, tech note, but only stopped for a couple of seconds to reload. The cone of fire did increase, quite a bit.
E4GLEyE Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 the guns in RoF and FC can jam randomly... that feature seems to be missing from ww2 birds (tho the "recock" animation is there) but if shot you can loose your guns and as mentioned above, heat only causes inaccuracy.

LuftManu Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 (edited) Well, I usually see more gun damage when fliying with the 41' planes and the 7,62 guns. It makes sense as the further we go, the bigger the gun, the bigger the damage. I think that if a 20mm hits you, the gun damaged is the best posible outcome for your craft ?
