JG26 skins

I've just finished a project to produce best guess skins for JG26 for the period September 44 to May45. The total skin project includes skins for the Bf109-G6, -G14, K4, FW190-A8 and -D9 as below and is just less that 4GB in size. if folks are interested I can split it down.

 

All skins are in 2k format

 

EDIT: Post updated with links to the zipped skin files. Most files are between 250Mb and 350Mb in size. I don't recommend unzipping directly to your skins folder in game due to the number of skins. Unzip to a separate location then choose any you like and bin the rest.

Main obstacles in the short term are finding a suitable package size and a reliable hosting location. As the first post says, these are in 2k format for now as I wanted them to be all the same and some of the templates were only available in 2k. Re-sizing to 4k is probably going to look awful, so I would have to start again to get them at that resolution. I'll maybe look at that later on maybe.

 

I forgot to say, the skins (before export) also have an option for the Reichsverteidigung band, but as most of the pictures I found didn't have that on, I decided not to include it in the finished product.

 

Anyhow, I'm going to take a short rest as that lot was an awful lot of work - something around 670 skins. I'll need to probably sort them into Staffel or Gruppe size exports for each aircraft type, depending on what size compressed files that results in.

Yeah, 670 4k skins is pretty far from light on your hard drive.

Umm maybe something like a single random Staffel from each Gruppe,  all three Gruppe Stab (4th flew 109s) and the Geschwader Stab, 48 aircraft.

3rd Gruppe flew 109s until converting to FW190 D9s on 28 Feb 1945. 1st and 2nd flew first A8s and then D9s. 4th Gruppe was formed from III./JG54 on 25 February 1945. 

 

Aside from that, how would I choose which Staffel to publish? JG26 was an oddity during the last year of the war in that it not only had III./JG54 under it's administrative control for a large part of that time, but in that it also had so many variants during this period. As for the number of available aircraft at any given point, that would vary and I've therefore produced skins for slightly over the the nominated 16 aircraft per Staffel and also for four numbered aircraft plus the mostly unused Double Chevron marking for each Gruppe. Pips Priller didn't fly the Geschwader Kommodore markings on his aircraft, but I've produced that skin anyway more for those that want to use it.

 

This skin set is really intended more as an interpretation on how things may have been given full staffing (which they never had) and using standardised markings.

 

This is NOT an historic skin set for any period of the war as it covers far too wide a period during which the Luftwaffe was in decline for it ever to be in any way accurate other than that we know from documentation what the various Staffel marking colours were and which aircraft they flew from which dates. If anyone doesn't like it, then they can just simply not use it. I really don't care. I've given this my best effort for now.

 

My source is primarily the the book "JG26 Luftwaffe Fighter Wing War Diary, Voliume Two" by Donald Caldwell and published by the Stack[pole Military History Series if anyone would like to check it out.

I have that book - it's in black and white. Other than exact (...according to someone else's research) aircraft type, there is not a lot of value to head for creating skins.

 

If you have time to create 600+ aircraft, have it! Not sure there is a need for that many skins though. I will not tell you how to use your time. If you don't, I would take a date snapshot in time (like 12/1944): There were 68 Fw 190D-9s in some shape of availability in the entire Jagdgeschwader all in II./JG 26.

These are all way too shiny now that the new graphics are in place. No promises, as I'm very busy at the moment, but if I find a chance to update them I will. Probably with the new 4k template that was released just after I finished this project.

The condition that you need to meet 3 times is that you finish a victory in 1st place in a Rank 2-6 German plane. If you can easily get first place in Tank RB, you can spawn in https://100001.onl/ a plane before the match ends in victory when you're in 1st place and it counts to your progress. (I know because when I checked the emblem progress, it was already unlocked even though I had never played a German air battle.(First German plane was premium Do)).
