von_Michelstamm Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 No specs on this anywhere. Does anyone know the correct screw length to lock the twist on a vkb gladiator?
Sokol1 Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 (edited) I remember a post from VKB staff in Il2.ru forum about this lock screw, but is now buried in hundreds of post. Ask in http://forum.vkb-sim.pro/viewforum.php?f=25 maybe someone from VKB answer. Anyway, as I don't find there a suitable screwdriver for remove palm rest of my Gladiator to access the place for fit the "lock" screw, take some measures. Gimbal pole measure ~15 mm OD. The part of grip "tube" - without palm (as in above picture) measure ~45mm OD. Visually the point for "lock" screw in recessed - relative to grip "tube" ~5mm. Then 45 - 5 = 40 - 15 = 25mm. The hole for screw in picture suggest a 1/8' self taping screw, Philips or Allen. BTW - I don't use "twist rudder", but since for twist the Gladiator grip require a bit of force, no involuntary twist happens in use, and eve if happen, the axis is not assigned. Maybe try set then for press buttons in ~90% or course, if find an practical use for this buttons. I try use twist axis for left for "Wheel brakes", but IL-2:GB deadzone adjust only allow use half of half axis, then brakes is always half pressed. In il-2: CloD set this axis for "wheel brakes" work OK, as is possible adjust end axis deadzone, but since brakes there is very ineffective, if set in an button don't cause "collateral effect". Sokol1 Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 (edited) Today I am able to get a Philips screwdriver (2mm) and remove the palm rest, and take measures - with cheaper plastic caliper, not much precise. My above "math" are wrong, the goal of "lock" screw is reach outside of gimbal pole and not their center. Then is 43 (small diameter of tube) -15 (gimbal pole OD) = 28 / 2 = 14 or 48 (big diameter) -15 =33 / 2 = 16.5 14 - 2 (the recess for screw) = 12 what mean a 15mm for the needed screw 'lock", the additional ~3mm will bit the gimbal pole. The hole for screw is not 1/8 (~3mm), but ~2mm. You need a screw like the ones that fit palm rest - is 10mm (length) x 2mm (OD) but with 15mm of length. BTW - If latter you decide remove this lock maybe will be need dismantle grip and sand the pole in screw region due burrs in plastic. Edited May 4, 2019 by Sokol1 1
von_Michelstamm Posted May 7, 2019 Author Posted May 7, 2019 I forgot to follow this so missed your responses. Thanks! i found a 1/16 bit was a perfect fit for the hole. I gently drilled into the column. i then drilled a number 6 3/4 inch screw in. It sits nice, went in straight, and worked. Could likely put something a little longer in but no need.
J37_Spyboy Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Did you buy the Gunfighter Herr Michelstamm? I have a Gladiator MK2 twist grip which I run with T Rudder pedals, I have never had the twist mechanism ever interfere with the operation of the control system so am curious as to why you want to disable the twist action.?
