Pimax 5K+ & Vive Sensor tracking problem

Recommended Posts

Posted

Frequently after setting up the Vive Sensor and 5K+, I then start IL2 with all going well, password selection completed and then go to career, campaign selections  and suddenly the screen goes gray and tracking is lost.  This is happening far too often so something is not correct.

Anyone else had this issue and if so how did you solve it.

打開一陣子後會自己正常,不要去觸碰頭盔的左右兩側,感知器似乎在那個地方

I assume the message you see in the then in the Pitool is "Not Tracked", right?

If this is the case it is not a problem related to IL-2.

In the past I had not tracked problems and discover that I had some reflections from a cristal surface from a picture on the wall:

You can try to move everything on your room that could cause reflections in bright or shiny surfaces like monitors, windows, cristal, etc.

Also try to separate the device at least 2 meters from the base station.

BTW, is the problem only in career mode?

Tried the unit at night with all lights off, headset is 1.5M from sensor and problem occurs in missions, scripted campaigns and careers.

Works fine at times but problem is too frequent.

I had my LH at about 30 degrees left of center and about level with the HMD.  I had a similar issue, flying for 20 minutes or so and loss of tracking.  I moved the LH to about 5 degrees left of center and higher so it looks down at about a 30 degree angle.  First position was at 55 inches (140cm) from HMD, second is 51 inches (130cm).  This move has eliminated loss of tracking.

EDIT:  I only have one Vive LH.

It is not a question of lights, but reflections of the basestation beams in other shiny surfaces. Try to identify shinny surfaces around. (it took me 2 days to realize the problem was the picture in the wall).

This is too short. Try to be at 2 meters from basestation.

Setup at 2M from Base station but have also found that if I proceed slowly from step to step, it appears to give the headset time to stabilize with the sensor.    Just flew for two+ hours with no problems at all.

I have one HTC Vive Base Station 2

Positioned Base Station 2m away, above and pointed down at 30+ degree angle.

Found most success using following steps and procedures:

Shutdown

After using HMD in game,

1. Close Steam VR,

2. Turn off Base Station in Pitool,

3. Close Pitool,

4. Turn off HMD,

5. Close IL2

Startup:

Make sure you previously completed a one time room setup and horizontal calibration using Pitool

Proceed slowly during startup allowing HMD and Base station time to synchronize together

1.Turn on HMD (keep turned on HMD out of sight of Base Station until base station is operating correctly in Pitool),

2. Start Pitool,

3. Select Base Station, Check that Base Station is operating correctly in Pitool (if sensor is not operating, do a full shutdown and repeat startup),

4. Move HMD to where visible by base station,

5.Start IL2 (Not necessary to start Steam VR using Pitool)

I am now able to get HMD and sensor to sync most of time using above and will try one additional item of blocking bright sun light from adjacent windows.

Let me know if this method helps

CHILIWILI69 is totally correct............listen to what HE said!

I had Lighthouse 2 System with a Vive Pro last year and it did not work at all......always tracking problems.......Grey Screen and all kind of shit going on.

I did not understand why, but after a Long time I realised that the window in my room caused the problems, the Lighthouse System does not like windows, mirrors, pictures with glass frames and all kind of shiny stuff.

I gave up with the shitty lighthouse sytem and bought a Rift, no trouble at all, now I use the Odyseey plus, also no trouble.

I will never buy a VR HMD anymore which requires that fucking Lighthouse System!!!

I just want to make sure I understand your comment.  Are you saying you dislike Lighthouses for HMDs?   ?

Exactly, NEVER EVER Lighthouse again.......you can all laugh, but I don´t, because I had real big Trouble with those ones. I had 2 base stations in operation, version 2.0 purchased as a whole bundle with the Vive Pro and it´s contollers.

it is pretty peculiar. I've had exactly the same issues with Rift cameras where they'd lose tracking constantly. I went to Vive with Lighthouses and it was stellar after that.  Everyone's on their own wagon with similar commentary, i.e. "something is up with your USB ports", which is a general problem area, however, unfortunately, without any technical steps to remedy or troubleshooting that would yield any coherent or specific. Possibly related to mobo and its usb chipset, power, physical location, etc etc etc...  I agree, sometimes all that's left to do is just switch the product.
