Nufsed Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Graphically; This is the best I have ever seen.......Wings Of Prey that is (IL2 BOS excepted, as it isn't finished yet). I have been "into" flight sims since April 23rd 1982, that was when the ZX Spectrum was released and my first flight sim on a computer was F15 Eagle (before that I built Airfix models). In 2000 I opened a flight sim dedicated gaming centre in Essex UK called "Sierra Hotel", during this time I also co-founded the Virtual Gaming Alliance, which you you probably know better as IGamesUK, when I was CEO we hosted the Samsung World Cyber Games for three years in succession. Oh, and I also hold a B.Sc. in Computer Science. My point is I know a fair bit about computer gaming and in particular Flight Sims, because I can honestly say without boasting, I've flown them all! And IMHO, as they say, Wings of Prey has the "very best" graphics I have "ever" seen in a flight simulator, I include all aspects i.e. shadowing, special effects etc in my assessment. As I also stated earlier I do "not" include IL2 BOS as it is not finished, but I will say this, I do hope the designers/programers IL2 BOS take a long hard look at what the guys achieved in Wings of Prey.
Nufsed Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 As an afterthought I have to add; the thing that impressed me most was the speed (60fps plus) that WOP runs at (using max settings) on a fairly modest machine!
Nage Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Ofcourse it will run fast as there is a simple FM and DM...less textures, particles, effects...LOL btw, you can play with sweetfx and you can go close to this in BOS too...anyway, this particular is cartoonish like imho Edited March 6, 2014 by tikvic 1
Picchio Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Now I can understand why so many are after SweetFX... sigh.
johncage Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 it's using dagor engine, same one behind war thunder and apache air assault. so they all have roughly the same graphical fideliy. to me, it always looked somewhat fake. it relies too much on post processing to cover up its shortfalls. it's also a simple engine for low complexity arcade style games. if you look at its art assets, they are nowhere near typical sim level. mainly the thing that more sims could use from it are sub maps and self shadowing for terrain, as that is a major factor in how nice it looks. most sims today, with exception of rise of flight and bos are running engines close to a decade old. so things like sub maps and self shadowing for terrain are relatively new in the world of sims. that's why newer engines automatically have those advantages to draw upon. it's a shame gaijin has no intention to bring its standard of detail and simulation to the same level as its visual technicals. 3

kestrel79 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Warthunder is a much improved version of the WoP graphics. You can remove the black edged screen, the green filter is gone as well. Even though the sim is much simpler and maps are smaller I still love the terrain graphics of Warthunder. Flying low at 60fps over detailed ground on 3 screens looks great. 1
Valisk61 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 VS There is something really appealing in the scenery in WT, but the aircraft models in CLoD are stunning (and the scenery looks beautiful too).
Cybermat47 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 In my opinion, both the WoP/WT graphics and CloD graphics are both great. The CloD graphics are stunning, while the WoP/WT graphics look nice but don't require as good a graphics card as the CloD graphics. 1
siipperi Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) Wings of Pray have what I call fake good graphics. They put that heavy graphic filter on top of everything to hide it look and made it look "better" but in my opinion it looks hideously bad... if you look texture quality it's just awful! + Clod have way better texture and model detail compared to BOS (technically, I dont take account how you think it looks). EDIT: + WT cockpits are just horrible. Edited March 7, 2014 by siipperi 1
johncage Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 clod's lighting is really flat and unconvincing, almost monotonal. the way it interacts with the planes and objects also leaves a lot to be desired.

Not to mention the lime green grass I think BOS looks better personally. The ground looks very believable to me unless you're flying at tree top level through the city. 1
